met up with OEF_VET at the Stones River range here in nashville today. actually, first we met up at the gun show where he twisted my arm into getting a M44 :D

after prying me away from the dealer at the show with all the Blackhawk tactical nylon goodness on display, we met up at the range. We had a blast shootin the rifles for a few hours. unfortunately time ran short on us getting to the pistol range.

here's a few pics from the day, and a link to a page with the remainder of the pics that came out decent. although I did get a new camera this week, a Canon A95, I'm still by no means a photographer.

here's me, gettin a little lovin from Irene.

we spent some time trying to catch a case in the air, here's one of the best we came up with. just leaving the chamber, and I believe the bolt is still open.

rest of the pics are HERE

Nice pics I have to say that is a very nice outdoor range. Nice overhang, mesh dividers between positions and good target holders. Is this a public range?

Ahh, what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The sun was out, the weather was perfect, and there were guns aplenty.

Tony, I told Angie about your new M44 and she said we're as bad as women buying clothes. "Oh, but you don't have this color. Oh, you'll need sandals too, so you can wear the dress in summer as well.", were some of her comparisons. hehe

Wolfy, that's a State-owned, public range and is very well taken care of. The RSO's are known to be range-nazis, which can be good at times, but occasionally, they get ridiculous.

I can't believe that is a state run range. In NJ the state range is nothing more than a hill cut in half thats it.

Yep. And less than 10 minutes from my house. :D

I'm still not sure why I can never find time to go shooting. (Bryan looks around at his house and sees all the crap he needs to be working on). Oh, yeah. That's why. :(

I've never really had any problems with the range officers. They're usually pretty decent folk. They have rules and they enforce them strictly. Some of them don't agree with all of the rules they have to enforce, but they still have to do it.

Even so, if I hadn't been out of town yesterday I would have joined them. Ah well.

The RSO's on the pistol range are obnoxious. When they stand over your shoulder while you're trying to concentrate, you know its time to go somewhere else.

I've never had the RSO's bug me unless I was actually violating a rule. One of them did give OEF_VET some guff about his target while I was there with him. But again, silly rules they may disagree with but have to enforce. I understand. If I had a nickel for every time I had to tell someone at work "Hey, you don't think they asked MY opinion about this, do you?" when I was forced to do something I also thought was a dumb idea .. well, I wouldn't be rich but I could probably buy a nice lunch somewhere.

admar2,
I was there from noon 'til three, on the 100yd range, sighting in my JLD with girlfriend spotting, it was a great day for it!
BTW since going there from the opening day, yesterday was the first time the RSO asked us to "wrap it up" as we had been there for more than two hours. I knew the deal--two hours is supposed to be the time limit, but this is the first I remember it being regulated.
As far as RSO's standing over shoulders, the only time I have seen that, is when they are interested in your weapon, if they have been asked to help, or if they are suspicious of someone's behaviour reguarding safety practices.

When I go out to Stones River, its usually on a Friday when no-one is on the pistol range. So the RSO working that day, with nothing else to do, will typically stand behind me and sweep up the brass as I'm shooting. So there I am, focusing on the front sight, concentrating, minding my own business when I start hearing "nice shot", "bullseye", "great group" coming from over my shoulder. And wouldn't you know it, right after the comments start, my concentration is broken and my group sizes increase. Then RSO wanders off! Jinx!

what lane were you on?

we were all the way down on lane 1&2. we were there from about 1230 to a little after 3

AdMar,
We were on 15, next to one of the lanes with the big plywood baffle in front of it. I'm gonna try to get up to Ashland City/Cheatham one day this week, if the weather holds. Maybe we could all hook-up!
