joelr has a very friendly and informative blog at http://www.joel-rosenberg.com

Today's entry is too darned cool not to share an excerpt here:

So a few of us went out to the Gopher Bar last night, on 7th in downtown St. Paul...

...it used to be posted, with a sign that read:

THE GOPHER BAR
BANS GUNS IN THESE PREMISES

Not any more.

There was a robbery a couple of weeks ago.

Now, this is the sign that you see as you come in the door....

ATTENTION
Due to the recent robbery
at Gun Point on Friday ALL Customers
can carry their firearms on these premises

Inside, there's another sign. ...t says, roughly, "carry permit holders are very welcome".

It's been said that a conservative is just a liberal who's gotten mugged. I guess that's true. :)

Boy,

If that dosen't spell out what is meant by: "A Liberal is a Conservative who hasn't been mugged yet." I don't know what does...

I'm not sure about MN law, however I'm guessing this applies to non-permit holders as well?

My Uncle lives in St Paul. If I'm visiting, and have some kinda weird craving for a drink, I know where I'm going.

In Minnesota one must have a permit to carry in order to legally carry, whether openly or concealed.

There is a rough and tumble bar in Memphis, TN. They have a gun check at the door. If your pistol is empty, they GIVE you 5 bullets!

Gopher Bar

I'm surprised the ban sign ever went up there. It used to have more than a few cops stop in after work, and fights were usually stopped in short order. The Gopher Bar robbed!:( What is this world coming to?

We can preach all we want but until Bubba shows them the path to enligthenment, they'll remain slaves to the drivel fed them by the media & libelous establishment.

Another group converted to the true way! Once more the forces of the dark side of the force have been defeated and good prevails. I love the sign!:D

From the guncontrolnow blog:
For some reason, the majority of our country lives in fear of the "bad guy" lurking around some corner waiting to harm you and take your money, or murder you and your family.
I wrote:

Nope, most of us think that being the victim of a violent crime is somewhat more likely than being the victim of a house fire. Check the numbers for your area -- you may be surprised. But we have homeowner's insurance, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
What I think we're collectively forgetting, though, is that most of the people who attack other people are not inherently evil people, but are misguided, or desperate, or misunderstood, or discriminated against to the point that they lash out against society.
Yeah. He really wrote that! I replied:

And it would be a wonderful world if we could all take care of, guide, support and respect each other. We could all have ice cream socials and stand in a circle and sing kumbaya.

Since the world isn't like that, and I don't see any sign that it'll get there in the next few weeks, I guess I can't really worry about why the bad/misunderstood/misguided/desperate person thinks it's okay to bash my head in for the $34 in my wallet.

Matt, I have a stock response to the blissninny nonsense about how criminals are all poor, misunderstood, desperate little children... I invite them to come and work an 8-hour shift with me in the max-security prison where I work. A few of them have taken me up on the offer - and at the end of the shift, oh, BOY! are they glad that we have prisons to keep this kind of person off the street! It doesn't take long to see how violent, predatory and basically evil-minded they are, and if they can't work their wickedness on the street, they'll work it on each other (and try to work it on the staff) behind bars. Sure-fire conversion mechanism, that!

<sigh> If only we could do this in Georgia. For all the relatively (relative to many other states) good gun laws, bars are off-limits. :(

State Rep. Bobby Franklin keeps trying to change this, but it never gets far. :banghead:
