A friend asked me for a .22 recommendation

He's early twenties. He's fairly new to guns (he got a bolt action .223 for his bday recently and he says he usually puts a box through it a week) and he's got land to shoot on but he doesn't always keep with his new hobbies, why I was looking for lower cost.

In this case, I'd suggest he pick up a bone-stock Ruger Mk. III. They're great intro .22s, will last forever, and if he ever decides he wants to start shooting competitive bullseye or Steel Challenge, he has an endless array of modifications he can make to the gun to make it competitive.

I would advise skipping any of the serious European target pistols, unless he's truly serious about getting into precision competition.

Okay, I gave him the list, weighting them by how popular the suggestion was on here. He's off looking for a threaded Mark II (he has a suppressor waiting for the atf okay for the rifle and he plans to use it on the pistol (I tried to tell him the longer sight radius is better but I also get his need for the suppressor[rescued animals issues])). He also tried to talk me in to installing the kit for it. I had a tough time explaining just because i know how to disassemble my weapons doesn't mean I'm willing to do the work on his.
I also realized after posting this, I all ready had a Mark II on my #OMGWant list.
