Well a friend of mine got robbed a few days ago... He lives approx. 200 yards from my house! They kicked in his garage door rummaged through the house and stole his brand new computer, a digital camera, his .44 and here's the sucky part...... His Savage .223 w/ Nightforce scope, his Remington .300 Ultra mag w/ Leupold Vari X III Tactical scope, his tricked out 10/22, and a few other rifles!!! I feel sick enough to hurl...... :uhoh:

He did not have a gun safe... and insurance only covers a portion of what was stolen! :(

The box to the computer was on the floor next to it. They boxed his computer up and walked out with it.... adding insult to injury! :uhoh:

I think that's called a burglary, not a robbery.

Regardless, its an unfortunate incident.

Sorry WT I guess my Southern Vinacular is coming out, kinda like when you go to McDonalds and they ask "what kinda "Coke" do you want with that?" Whenever someone steals something from me, I got robbed....

Wow, dude...check the strength of your doors, windows, and locks. Those BG's maybe well be back in a day or two to visit YOU!.

And, the may also hit your neighbor AGAIN in 5 to 6 weeks...that's about how long it takes to get the insurance settlement and re-buy the stolen stuff.

Lots of gunowners don't own a safe. I can't understand why. They will spend thousands on guns w/o hesitation, but then don't want to throw down a few bucks to keep them secure. I guess they think as well armed as they are, they could easily defend themselves against a burglary.

What Rock Jock said.

Since buying my gunsafe, I have much better peace of mind about leaving the house. Sure, it's not perfect, and someone who was really determined could get in it, but it's much, much better than just having firearms in a closet.

For those who are seriously concerned about price, I've seen some decent looking safes for sale at Walmart for under $1000.

+1 rock jock

btw, if your friend does any online finance or other stuff, remind him to change all his passwords. e.g. if ebay remembers his password and automatically signs him on, the thief can do a LOT more damage now

Did he have a dog that was not kenneled up?

Yeah it sucks that he got broke into, but someone knew he had stuff. Ask around Who did it is nearby, offer money to some folks for info, I have no idea but go to a few bars not too far awaay and ask the bartender anyone trying to sell some guns...explain why...usually you can get a tip that way.

When my last tool trailer was stolen, I figured it to be someone who knew about the house, (we were building at the end of a 1/2 mile drive way) so i flagged some kids riding four wheelers around and asked them if they had any ideas, One kid said he had seen a big super cab ford driving around that was not from there, said it had a Kawasaki sticker on it (the kid was riding a suzuki) and he said the guy yelled yellow sucks, buy green or something. I went out on sat night and drove to every bar i could find in five mile radius and found the truck, at the seventh bar i went to I found a big super cab ford with a kawasaki sticker on it. took down the plate called the local sheriff and gave it to him. two days later i had a lot of my stuff back.

I just did what you see on almost every cop show, just asked questions but i had more time to put into it than any PD did for just a tool theft.

When I sold my house and moved into an apartment I realized that not only was I at increased danger of being burgled, I realized that I was now at a risk of fire loss. Not only due to my actions, but potentially those of the stupidest tenant in my building.

So I got renter's insurance, up to 25k for contents and made sure it covered firearms, and purchased a one hour rated 10-gun safe. Only set me back $450 and I could move it unloaded into my closet with a handtruck. Best peace of mind I could have ever bought.

Of course I'll need to buy another one soon, as I'm about to outgrow this one, but I'm going to buy it's twin and place it right next to the first one.

Tex
