If you are active in conservative or Republican politics, you have probably received a letter from Rudy Guiliani, asking you to join "Team Rudy." I received one, and used his postage-paid envelope to send him the following reply:
Rudy Giuliani Presidential
Exploratory Committee Inc
P.O. Box 1023
Merrifield, VA 22116-9565

Dear Mr. Giuliani:

I have received your invitation to join Team Rudy. I have read your letter carefully. I must tell you that I am impressed by your accomplishments as Mayor of New York. I also agree with virtually everything you said in your letter.

I am, however, disturbed by the things you did not say.

Like myself, you have taken the oath prescribed in Article 6 of the Constitution, to support that Constitution, Yet you have supported "a woman's right to choose" -- a concept found nowhere in the Constitution and one that denies the 5th Amendment right to life to the unborn.

You have also pushed aside the 2nd Amendment. Today we see many rights being curtailed or eroded because unscrupulous politicians have found they can drive through the hole that was left in the Bill of Rights when the 2nd Amendment was -- not repealed, but simply ripped out and violated.

I am sorry that I cannot support you.

Regretfully,

Vernon W. Humphrey
Chairman
Stone County Republican Committee

If you haven't got your letter, feel free to use the address I posted above.

I didn't get a letter, but if he gives me a postage paid envelope, I've got my work ahead of me melting 65 lbs of lead into a single brick so he can ship it.

I'm not going to touch the pro-life issue as it's not related to this forum, but the 2A issue is completely valid IMO.

Rudy is more anti gun than half the Democrats and all of the republicans running (maybe not Romney but it is a toss up at best).

Any pro 2A person would be crazy to join his team.

Giuliani is a fanatic anti-gunner who presided over a police force in NYC that conducted itself as an occupying army.

I have three reasons why I will NEVER vote for Giuliani, no matter against WHOM he runs. Those reason are:

Louima
Diallo
Dorismond

I wouldn't vote for Giuliani if he ran against a Charles Manson/Ayman al Zawahiri ticket.

I think his campaign will self destruct before much longer anyway but if I get the letter I'm responding pretty much the same way.

Bloomberg learned all his tricks from Rudy.....

I can't support Giuliana. His record on the Second Amendment is enough for me to seek a candidate else where. He is fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. Even if he "said" he would not actively seek to pass additional restrictive gun control legislation, I wouldn't trust him to not sign one that some how made it through a Democrat controlled Congress. Not my kind of guy. Romney is no Giuliana.

the biggest problem with rudy is the way politics work in general. Give and take, to get the Democrats to help his financially conservative agenda, you can guess what republican positions he will be willing "to give up". He would gladly sign into law, a nationwide registry, AWB, or any other anti gun law that the DNC has been dreaming about for decades, in exchange for big buisness perks, new government contracts, amongst others. In this way he may even be more dangerous than Hillary and Obama. Americans certainly "sent a message" to Bush about their dissatisfaction with the war. Outside of threatening to block military funding, most of the new reps have done nothing to solve the Iraq situation or support the troops. They have spent their time pushing gun bills, and social reform to protect us from ourselves.

I hope that letter gets through to an actual person even though I disagree with your views on abortion :-\

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

How in the heck do you think the 5th applies to abortion? Honestly, the 5th talks about government regulation of power.

Alucard:
I hear what you are saying but there are some hard corp repub party line voters on this board. They don't care that RG is more dangerous to the 2A than Hillary or Obama (bizare as it seems). They will sell out and vote for him because he is a repub and electable.

(And everyone needs to stop mentioning the 'A' word or this thread will soon have a little padlock on it.)

I know if he is on the republican ticket, republicans will vote for him, I don't want to be stuck with the only two electable choices between Rudy and hillary or Obama, thats where the primaries come in. Far fewer people vote in the primaries than in the general elections so if we are vigilant and get as many pro gun rights people out voting in both elections the outlook would likely be better. Sometimes you just have to vote for the smaller pile of poo.

I don't swallow the lessor of two evils argument either. If there is absolutely no one on the ballot that I can support at least half way than I won't vote.

Thanks, Vern

Rudy G. worries me because
  • he wants to eliminate guns;
  • he wants to take the leash off the police.

He's a human rights/civil rights nightmare.

Re: Guilliani....No Way!

I couldn't vote for him due to his Anti-Gun stance. I hope the GOP comes up with something better. I don't know who that will be, but he or she will have to be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. My nephew thinks I'm crazy for using gun rights as my yardstick for candidates. I told him that there are no other rights, unless you have the Second Amendment.
