Hello folks,

We were all saddened recently by the murders at Virginia Tech, and we have all been concerned about what this incident could mean for our rights as well. I am a longtime AR15.com forum member, and for those who haven't seen, one of our own was recently defamed by the media after the shooting.

Our member, Wayne Chiang, is a Virginia Tech student, he's Oriental, and he's a firearms enthusiast. Apparently that's a bad combination. The night after the shootings, Wayne's website was featured on Geraldo Rivera's Fox News show, and he was thrown out for the world to have their way with him. Now, Wayne is a good guy, and has no connections to the shooter, but thanks to Geraldo and Fox News, he has now been connected. Wayne has received numerous death threats, and been implicated in this horrible tragedy.

This could be any one of us here. You visit "gun" websites, you own guns, and you probably enjoy shooting those guns. It's no great leap to see that it would take very little to make any one of us guilty in the court of public opinion. This internet and TV crucifixion of a fellow gun owner cannot be allowed. We must stand on this and make our point, or it could be any one of us next.

Wayne's personal webpage can be found athttp://wanusmaximus.livejournal.com/

Part of Geraldo's comment can be seen there as well.

All I ask is that you take the time to send an email to Fox News and their sponsors and let them know that we will not support having an innocent, gun owning, genuine "good kid" thrown to the wolves, solely because he likes guns. Let's show these people that we are gun owners and will not allow them to throw us under the bus for ratings.

Here is Wayne on CNN, in an attempt to clear his name from this slanderous attack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kqLcaoC2Qs

Here is a list of Fox sponsors that one of our member located on the net. http://www.debone.com/boycottFoxNewsSponsors.html

Like I said, all I ask is that you take a minute or two and let Fox and their sponsors know that gun owners can stand together, and will not be the social pariahs and scapegoats for the masses.

I'll post a form email in a little while, if you like, to make things quicker and easier for you guys. Thank you for your time and Jeff White, thank you for your effort.

Everyone, please contact the above links to complain. We need to Zumbo Geraldo.

Once you do, please post here that you contacted them, and if possible, put your message, that way others can get ideas.

Vanilla, I'm going to change your thread title so that it is a little more specific. Hopefully that will help.

maybe the best way is to flood THIS inbox:

[email protected]

this is their 'comment' email address.

my response:

I watch fox news regularly. Again, I am sickened by the irresponsible, alarmist, sensational 'journalism' of Geraldo Rivera. As I am sure you know, Geraldo did what amounted to a hit piece on an innocent man, Wayne Chiang in the wake of the shootings at Virginia Tech. With nothing even closely resembling evidence, Geraldo profiled an Asian man with guns, and plastered his identity on television for the world to see. And of course, this was not the man responsible for the carnage. One can only begin to imagine the nonsense this man has had to deal with. An acquaintence of Wayne's that posts on a popular firearms website informed those of us on another site that Wayne has received numerous death threats as well.

This is not the first time Geraldo has been criminally irresponsible on national television. He is more concerned with breaking a 'story' than with truth, and his actions reflect directly on FOX News as a whole. I will not be watching your news program while Geraldo is still a part of your organization.

Thank you,

I just sent this to fox news
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynN1MBaPPq0

I have sent letters to your sponsors because of Geraldo Rivera's false reporting and slandering of Wayne Chiang. Geraldo kept reporting Wayne as the possible shooter even after the police told fox that he was not a suspect. I am boycotting all of your sponsors until Geraldo Rivera is FIRED!

Anyone have a list of advertisers?

Are we pointing folks from ARFCOM, FAL Files, and the rest here as well?\

Should we post a poll to track the progress?

Yeah we should make a poll... i'm going to make sure to link to this thread on m1911.org, but i'm not a member of any other forums aside from this one and that one, so everyone else will have to hit the other ones.

Edit: This is a copy of what i posted over at m1911.org

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but as i'm sure many of you know that Geraldo on Monday night falsely accused a member of ar15.org of being the VTech shooter. Apparently being asian and a gun collector means that you can be accused of a horrific crime without an apology. I'm a member at thehighroad.org and we're trying to make sure that Geraldo doesen't get away with this. Heres a link to a thread with information about contacting fox news and its sponsors in regards to this incident. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthre...d=1#post3312076

Email sent to Fox News... We should probably email the other cable news networks, and get them to jump on the story, I'm sure they'd love to take their shots.

Email Text

Here's email text anyone can feel free to cut/modify/paste, although the earlier email on this thread is shorter and perhaps better.

_______________________________

Your network just wreaked havoc upon an innocent human being. I’m referring to the false accusations levied against a Virginia Tech alumnus by Geraldo Rivera. While it has always been a stretch to call Geraldo a journalist, this latest incident warrants his immediate termination.

Geraldo vilified an INNOCENT HUMAN BEING on national TV. Rivera apparently took flight with the first openly gun-owning Asian male he could find that had an association with the college. This calls into question whether Fox has hired someone with racist leanings and a personal agenda of sensationalism, to say nothing of his obvious lack of ability to research and verify leads.

An innocent man's good name has been irreparably damaged, his reputation tarnished, and he is now receiving death threats and hate mail, thanks to the drivel that YOUR NETWORK allowed Geraldo to broadcast.

Until such a time as Rivera is removed from the air permanently, and a public apology is issued both by himself and the Fox News Channel, I will boycott not only your broadcasts, but your major advertisers as well. I will be issuing e-mails to those advertisers, informing them of my decision to boycott their products, the reasons why, and urging them to pull sponsorship from your network until such a time as apologies are made, and Rivera is dismissed.

I am also making a point to inform my friends, neighbors, co-workers and colleagues of this utter disgrace, and will ask them to not only express their own displeasure to you personally, but to also boycott both your broadcasts and sponsors.

Your network has disgracefully harmed an innocent man. I’m standing by to see if you react with appropriate measures.

Message sent, kept it short and sweet.

Subject: Geraldo the Retardo

I thought Fox was supposed to be a "spin free", and "fair and ballanced" news network.(?) I will not watch Fox news, as long as that asshat with a moustache is still employed there. Furthermore, I really hope the young man slandard by Geraldo decides to sue him personally.

I went for the "gentle constructive" approach this time.
Mailed to Fox News:

Everybody makes mistakes. It is how we address those errors that define our character.

My personal suggestion is that Fox News air a special segment on Richard Jewell, the man falsely accused of perpetrating the Atlanta bombing in 1996.

The segment should be hosted by Geraldo Rivera.

Common points should be noted between the media’s treatment of Richard Jewell and Mr. Rivera’s and Fox’s treatment of Wayne Chiang. You have an excellent staff of writers who, I am sure, could do far better than I at pointing out the harm that can be caused when the media acts in an irresponsible manner.

Such a segment could be both educational and entertaining. It would certainly be better than some half-hearted apology, don’t you agree?

Best regards.

I was infuriated when I saw Geraldo Rivera and his flunkies drag the first Asian-American with a picture of a gun they could find through the mud . With no evidence at all your reporter plastered Wayne Chiang’s website all over the world identifying him as the murder. Racist slander pure and simple to fill dead air. We ultimately found out that Cho Seung-Hui was the murder, but only after Geraldo’s drive-by-shooting of a report was repeated over and over again. Then it continued to be reported! Irresponsible, alarmist, sensational "journalism" like this does not belong on “fair” Fox News. MSNBC has done a much better job of covering this tragedy and I will be watching them until Geraldo and his lynch mob are gone from Fox.

BTW, keep the profanity and RKBA jargon out of what you send. It only reduces the impact of the letters.

Guys, I hate to be the jerky moderator, and edit posts, especially ones that I agree with, or think are funny, but we're going to keep Activism focused. We can't afford to drift at all. We've just got to keep hammering.

I've e-mailed FOX, and tried to stick with the lynch the first "Asian with a gun on the internet" angle. Contacting sponsors next.

I am awaiting responses from admin at S&W forum, SigForum, and GlockTalk as well. If anything is heard from Fox, I will post it, but so far, we have not received any responses at all. probably checking with their legal department.

I found this site from one of the guys over at PerfectUnion.com.
Well here is what I sent over to Fox News:

My name is Matt Harp. I live in Louisville, KY. I just saw the piece Geraldo Rivera did on Wayne Chiang. It seems to me that Mr. Rivera tried and convicted that man without ever giving Mr. Chaing an opportunity to speak in his own behalf.
Judging from his drawing of a map that could have revealed the location of U.S. forces during Desert Storm in 1991, his comments on illegal aliens on The O'Rielly Factor show recently, and his slanderous implication of Mr. Chiang; I find Mr. Rivera to be a poor and Irresponsible journalist. Frankly, he does not deserve the title.
I can only assume that he is on your payroll in an effort to present balanced news reporting. I can appreciate this, but I believe he is damaging your credibility with his talk show host mentality. I believe you would be better served with a liberal minded journalist than a liberal minded entertainer. At least a journalist is more likely to check his facts before going on the air.
