I have several lbs. of AA2495 that I picked up when powder was really scarce. Thought it was like IMR 4895 and was expecting to use it to load .223 with 50 or 55 gr. bullets as well as loads for other larger cartridges. However, I find the data for AA2495 is relatively sparse.

For .223, the Accurate Load data lists a few loads for 60 gr. bullets and above, but not lower. Anyone had any luck loading this powder for the lighter bullet weights?

I also load for .308, .30-06, 6mm Rem. and .22-250. I have data for loading 2495 in .308, but not the others. Is it useable in these cartridges? Anyone got a source for tested loads?

Best to contact Accurate. AA2495 is listed on their site as a heavy bullet .223 powder. And a few other small capacity cases. 6mm BR, for example. As well as .308.
The shortage of data means more that it hasn't been tested than suitability.

"...Thought it was like IMR 4895..." Closer to IMR4064.

When AA2495 was introduced on the market I called Accurate Arms and asked them about the powder. They claimed its pressure curve was a copy of IMR 4895, and to date, grain for grain in 223, 308 and 30-06, it has worked out that way.

I asked them why they did not call it AA4895, like they do for AA4350, and end the confusion, but I think their marketing department wanted a cutesy name and they stupidly call it 2495 and confuse everyone.

I have used kegs of AA2495 in the 308, it helped me get my Distinguished Rifleman badge, most of what I shot was made in China, of all places, but it is an excellent powder.

There is data for 2495 in the ACCURATE ARMS—2003 Loading Manual for lighter bullets. I do not know if the 2495 listed there is the same as the 2595 BR that I have seen recently, or why this data is no longer listed in the new manual.

That's what I recall, horseman1. I had older AA data (that I've misplaced) that had many loads for 2495; their latest data manual has few to none in the cartridges in question.

Thanks for that post, Slamfire1. I'll proceed cautiously using the lesser of IMR4895 and H4895 data and see where that leads.

I have contacted AA on the subject and got a quick response. Basically they pointed at the current data manual and also provided a few .30-06 loads that should get me started.

For 308 Winchester, for a 168 Match bullet, start at 40.5 grains, work your way up to 41.5 grains AA 2495. I used LC cases which are very heavy, this will work with any primer.

For 30-06, a load I have shot thousands of rounds in competition, try a 168 Match bullet, 47.0 grains AA 2495, any case, any primer. This just about duplicates LC NM, it used a 174 grain bullet, and this load is appropriate for a Garand mechanism.
