Step-by-step of Zen Shooting -
https://www.bullseyepistol.com/zenpract.htm
I am advancing some of my defensive point shooting students to "Zen" of shooting, regardless sighted or unsighted to deliberately shoot more accurate at will anywhere on the targets at farther distances.
When they are able to produce tight double taps (shots within 1" or almost touching), I ask them, "How did you do that?"
They respond "I don't know, may be I got lucky."
I tell them
there are several shooting variables and when the variables become more consistent, they WILL produce tighter double taps and groups faster. Becoming more consistent without deviation is the journey towards "Zen" of shooting in my book.
After reaching point shooting proficiency, I see them trying to speed up and producing larger groups. And
I tell them to practice until all the fast double taps are inside the 1/4 sheet copy paper targets - Only after they are able to consistently place all the double taps inside are they allowed to move the targets further back and if the holes fall outside of the 1/4 sheet targets, to move the targets closer.
I tell them my objective of match/defensive/point shooting is not to shoot fast and accurate occasionally but to shoot accurate as fast as possible to maintain that accuracy to the point where you can
absolutely and positively ensure every shot hits (POI) where you want the shot to go (POA) - To me, this is my "Zen" of shooting. As you reach this point, type of pistol/caliber/ambient temperature/whether sunny or pouring rain, should not matter (Yes, we shoot in pouring rain with rain gear - You gotta love 100 inches of annual rainfall).
