I have just installed a set of Leopold 26mm rings and a one piece adjustable base. The front ring is dove tailed, the rear is "clamped".
Lets assume that the front rings locked in "square to the bore" when rotated into the dove tail and by chance the adjustment screws on the base were set "centered" to the front and the rear ring when mounted also mounted "centered" (this might be a good time to lap the rings) IF windage adjust is needed and the adjustment on the base is used is the tube "bent" to make the adjustment? Brownells said yes and was why he didnt like them. Has anyone gone through this.

How about "yes" and "no". If the front ring is very tight, and the rear is adjusted for windage, yes, the scope will actually bend. But a gunsmith installing that type of mount should work the front ring in with a brass bar or tube of the right diameter so it is not super tight. If that has been done, the ring should turn enough so the scope tube won't bend, or at least won't bend enough to matter.

Scope tubes are surprisingly tough and can flex a small amount without damage, but some folks who don't know better put the rings on the scope, then use the scope as a lever to force the front ring into the base. That can really damage a scope.

All of that being said, and FWIW, I never like that type or mount. I always preferred the plain old Weaver mounts when the scope has internal adjustments.

Im sort of undecided. More with the concept than anything. they seem to work well but I think a person could really make a mess of things if the whole installation was approached hap-hazardly.
Probably wont buy them again. I do like the dual dove tail.
Thanks fior the feed back!
