hey fellow high roaders

I am trading my RH10 ak47 and I have two offers on the table right now. I can’t decide so I would like some input as to which you think is better? Quality and reliability is a major decision point here.

One guys offer -

-Aero Precision M5e1 308 complete rifle, no optics or sights, nickel boron bcg, 4 mags.
-Aero precision M5 308 complete upper, no optics or sights, no bcg or charging handle.

2nd guys offer-
-BCM / Spikes 5.56 build : BCM BFH upper, vortex diamondback 4-12x40 scope, bipod, muzzle brake, failzero bcg, fortis hammer charging handle
- ON a Spikes spartan color filled lower with Magpul MIAD, magpul ptr stock, seekins ambi safety select, seekins enhanced bolt catch, spikes tactical t2 buffer
-4 mags

I really want a AR10 cause of the 308 and first guys offering a complete AR10 plus another AR10 complete upper. But the second guys rifle looks great. I don’t know much about aero precision, but I do have a couple BCMs and actually two bcms that are built on spikes lowers. All are flawless.

What you guys think?

the 223 or 5.56 is a wimpy round wound only, what you really want is to step it up to a mans rounds i see  knock them flat out dead
 first shot

Yeah i know I have many 5.56 and have owned a few 308s but I just mean as far as quality, reliability and longevity of the rifle

Absent a physical inspection, you have no idea of the condition, quality or reliability of the rifle.

I went to High School with a guy who got obsessed with the AR-10. He is the only person I know to have assembled fully-functioning AR-10s from parts. He lives "off the grid" in North-Central Arkansas and only transfers rifles in face-to-face barter transactions. Show up with cattle, sheep, goats or pigs or don't show up at all.

Ask yourself why the seller of the AR-10 and an additional receiver is wanting to sell both. Couldn't he get them to work?

That’s a good point. He did tell me he took that upper off and put the other one on cause it was lighter. The upper by itself is a heavy barrel. He has video of the complete rifle shooting and he has been seemingly honest. Says the complete upper functions fine but has some scratches, and said the complete rifle USED to have FTF issues that’s why he purchased the aero nickel boron barrel and said since then everything functions perfectly for 300 rounds.

What type of issues do you usually see with AR10 builds?

If you have a purpose for the AR10 it’s a pretty compelling deal, particularly if you sold off the second upper and added another caliber (or even pocketed the funds). My experience with Aero to date is limited but positive enough that I ordered a complete upper from them this week.

Any firearm can be finicky and most can be made to function reliably with a bit of work. The problem I read about most often is a lack of facts; “my ____ isn’t ____, what do I do? No, I haven’t measured anything, I thought I’d fiddle with mags/swap bolts/polish feed ramps with my Dremel.” Point being many folks seem ready to cut their foot off rather than shake the sand out of their sneakers. I’d suggest a friendly range day with whichever party interests you most to run his and yours lest tires be slashed later in a fit of “ive been hoodwinked”.

On the other hand a BCM/Spikes combo sounds nice, quality is to be expected (though lately I’m reading rumblings about Bravo QC) and there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing. I would however guess this rifle has considerably higher mileage than the 308.

So...probable win/win and flip a coin if you don’t really “need” either one.

Thanks for the detailed response. I was also kind of thinking that as well, maybe getting rid of the .308 upper cause I don’t have any 308 lowers laying around but got a ton of 5.56 lowers just waiting to be thrown together.

The spikes is very tempting to me for sure. The aero as well. I’ve always wanted to get another AR10, or anything in 308 for that matter cause I enjoyed that round so much.

One thing though that I do like is having similar caliber rifles. I have thousands of rounds of fiocchi 223 laying around and I wouldn’t want to have to buy another thousand of 7.62nato. Little spendy right now lol
