Does anyone have experiences with the Aero (ASP or ASR)? I like the design which allows for quick barrel takedown. This would be used for SD/HD and plinking.

eh, for HD, i would probably rather have an AR pistol.....about the same size but a much more powerful round......especially considering theyd cost about the same....

A 9mm from a long barrel indoors would be more gentle on the ears than a 5.56 with half the powder buring outside the barrel.

Have you looked at the folding Kel-Tec S2000 which also can also take 9mm Glock mags?

Inexpensive and very light and compact design.

Build a 9mm AR that takes Glock mags.

That's a pretty expensive option at the moment, but a good one. I've built one on a QC10 lower, but price the lower and 9mm bolt prices before you go down this road. I was able to mill a "standard" $100 9mm AR bolt to fit the single column feed Glock mag, but if you can't the bolt will cost a good bit more.

The ASP/ASR seems in between the Keltec and a 9mm AR that takes Glock mags.

The Kel-Tecs are also pretty hard to find lately.

So count me curious to hear from ASP/ASR owners.

I have an ASR..................What would you like to know?

I have around 400 rounds through it with exactly 1 fail-to-eject. No FTF's or any other function problems. The barrel lock collar was coming loose after about 50 rounds. 2 wraps of Teflon tape fixed that.

It came from the factory with 1 KCI mag. I've since purchased 4 Magpul magazines for it. They all function well.

With my reloads, I can get 1.5" groups at 50 meters (10 rounds).

I currently have a Vortex Strikefire red-dot sight on it.

I find it to be a handy, light little rifle.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like you have a fairly reliable shooter. I was looking for something similar to the compactness of a KT Sub 2000 but with a shorter barrel. Small enough to fit in a briefcase if necessary.

Here's a question....how quickly can the barrel be put back on? Are tools needed?

Thanks

It takes about 5 seconds to remove or install the barrel. Just grab the ventilated shroud in front of the receiver and turn it to remove or attach. No tools needed

I would have liked to have a shorter barrel, but our laws up here in Canada say that semi-auto centerfire rifles have to have 18.5" barrel to be non-restricted.

rimfire rifles can have any barrel length as long as the barrel is factory-made, and overall length of rifle is 26.5"
I have 2 10/22's with 16.5" barrels that are non-restricted. I could go as short as an 8.5" barrel and still be legal

Excellent - look forward to hearing about it.

Just as a data point - the PSA upper with included BCG ($300) works with the New Frontier (Glock mag) lower just fine, without modification. The combo will probably set you back $600 by the time that the build is done.

A bit about the pistol.

PROS -
- nicely done anodized finish (OD in my case)
- feels solid
- user swappable right/left ejection
- barrel swaps easily
- can swap calibers (but expensive)
- rails, can attach quite a few rails
- Glock mags

CONS -
- cheap poly flip-up sights
- KCI G17 mag

Took it to the range today. Temp was in the low 30's. Shot it right out of the box. No cleaning whatsoever. Ran the KCI mag - flawless 15 rounds. Pop a 33 round Glock OEM mag in and . . . failure to feed every few rounds. Pop'd 3 more 33 round Glock OEM's. Slow fired then rapid. No more FT feeds or any other types of failures. Pop in a couple of 17 round Glock OEM - flawless. Ammo was UMC target loads - yellow box bulk. Off-hand accuracy was typical of a heavy pistol mag forward grip design. All shots were off-hand with my cheek resting on the buffer tube (not shouldered 'cause it's really too short) from about 15 yards. All shots in the black of an 8" Shoot N C. As an aside, shots were dead on when using the Streamlight laser shooting from the hip.

Trigger's a single stage. Nothing special but broke clean. I think the specs says 4 lb. Too lazy to break out the scale. I replaced the poly sights with steel.

One thing I did notice was that cases were ejecting only about 1 foot from the pistol. Probably buffer spring overly stiff, buffer is too heavy for 9mm or just needed to be cleaned and lube.

Overall, decent pistol that provides a few options. I paid $700 which included shipping and transfer. A little expensive for a plinker, but there aren't many of options out there if one wants to stick with 9mm Glock mags; AR patterned, JRC, Sub2000, ASP. The good thing is that it's 9mm. It can double as protection, especially with the 30-something round Glock mags.
