After lasik surgery, my right eye is fine for reading, while my left eye is good for distance. Normally the brain seems to switch back & forth easily, and it's great not having to wear glasses whether reading or driving.

Being right-handed, with a pistol I shoot right handed but use my left eye to sight. All seems to work ok. I just hold the pistol a little off center or maybe tilted slightly.

I don't own a rifle yet, but wondering what I'll do if using a scope, or even iron sights. With my right cheek on the stock, and the butt firmly in my right shoulder, using my left eye doesn't seem easy.

Maybe the scope diopter can adjusted to make my right eye work. Iron sights still seem like they'd be a problem. Never tried shooting left-handed.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks....

Only you can know how severe the problem is... I am strongly left-eye dominant so I learned to shoot long guns from the left shoulder despite me being right handed. I shoot handguns right handed but turn my head slightly to line up the sights with my left eye. You might need to learn to shoot your rifle from the left shoulder. You won't be able to shoot right handed/right shoulder and use your left eye without some severe contortions.

If you don't have a rifle yet and haven't grown accustomed to shooting them from the right side, there's no reason why you can't start out from the left shoulder, if that's what works best for your eyes.

However, remember you're not really focusing on long distance stuff with a rifle. You're either focusing on the front sight (maybe 2 feet away) or the optic (a few inches away).

when I had my eyes done I was offered that choice, but i elected to have both eyes the same(far sighted) and only need glasses to read.

The scope's dipoter setting should take care of that, unless your total power in the right eye is over 4 diopters. (Highly unlikely, 3 is high for reading add, and the lasik should have solved any distance correction needs.)

With iron sights, the rear will be in focus, the front fuzzy. No way around that, except shooting left handed, which you should have learned before this anyway. Well, technically, you could have Rx glasses made so both eyes are good for distance. (Plano lens in left, mins power equal to your reading add in the right.)
