I'm wondering about the feasibility of doing such a thing, with rifles such as the Century NDS-2 and Tantal in mind, as both come with US-made non chrome-lined barrels (but what about the gas blocks/tubes?), and with corrosive surplus as low as 14 cents a round...

Anyway, I have no experience with the aforementioned rifles, I am merely pondering thoughts, but I was wondering if anyone has done this before, if an electroplating service has to have a special process for hard-chrome bore-plating, as well as dis-assembly of the barrel from the trunnion (solidity of the joint after reassembly), and the approximate cost for such a service performed.

[And I am aware that an additional $150 over the cost of a Century NDS-2 would allow the purchase of a TGI AK-74, it's for reference on other guns (like the Tantal) I'm asking.]

Thank you for the time.

Typically, no.

For hardchrome you want the bore to be oversize and it's then plated back to the desired interior dimension. No way to do this after the fact. Well, no way to do it right afterward.

So then I take it that if I got an early Century Tantal with a 5.56 barrel, then it would work to post-chrome the bore?

One of the uses of hardchrome is to bring items back into spec, so that CAI may benefit.

Good luck. BSW
