Hello folks!

My first day in the Highroad and here is my first question! ;)

Yesterday i bought a used 1911 Colt Gold Cup National Match " First Edition 9mm" the number is: GCNM 091. The gun is in almoust perfekt condition and i paid 650 Euro for this beautifull baby. So the prices in the USA will be different but for Europe it is good deal i think.

I "googled" for some hours but could not find anything about a Gold Cup in 9 Para.

So please help me to get some information about my "new" gun; age,how many they build and .... and .... and

Greetings from Austria (No kängurus but the "Terminater" was born in my town.. :) )

if you call Colt they will give yout he date of manufacture for the firearm based off of the serial number. I bought a Cotl Trooper MK III adn they told me when it was made from that data. You can also pay for them to send you a fairly elaborate document of your firearms manufacture date, run, etc

Gold Cups in 9mm are not common

I have paid attention to Colt Gold Cups over the years and own a number of them. Almost all Gold Cups are in .45 caliber, but there are a few in 9mm, .38 Super and 10mm. Colt manufactured some Gold Cups in the late 1980's in a series called "Elite" that included a 9mm model.

I happen to own the .38 Super in the Elite series. It is a two tone gun with a stainless steel frame and blued slide, having smooth wood grips with a gold Colt medallion. It has the usual Eliason target sights that are commonly found on Gold Cups. I paid $900 for mine about 4 years ago.

It could be that your 9mm Gold Cup was from this series. If so, it is about 16 or 17 years old. Depending on condition, it should be worth over $1000. I don't know how much that is in Euros.

I have seen other Colt 1911 models in 9mm, such as an Officer's Model (3.5 inch barrel and 6-round magazine). But they are scarce.

Thanks a lot for the help over thound´s of miles!!! :)

@ pogo2: My gun has no duotone finish; i try to post a picture. After a phone call to the ministery of guns in Germany where the gun was testfired first time i know now that the gun came to Europe in the year 1989.

But there are no informations about a gun like this even in the special 1911 pages.

Thanks a lot and i hope to get mor info.

Greetings from Austria

Bernd

I think you got a good deal for E650, about $850.

I cannot find any listing for a "First Edition 9mm" Gold Cup.
I think but cannot prove that it was probably ordered from Colt by a German distributor for sale in Europe where 9mm guns and ammunition are much more common than .45. With a serial number of 91, they probably ordered a hundred, maybe more.

Special markings applied on a special order like that are interesting and might add to the gun's value, but not a great deal.

I have a Colt 9mm 1991A1 without special markings but one that I am told was made for sale in Europe but never shipped there. All I know for certain is that it is a gun not shown in US catalogues. And it shoots well.

Thanks for the picture

I looked at the picture you posted of the 9mm Gold Cup. It looks to be a Series 80 in all stainless steel with Pachmeyer Signature rubber grips. The gun looks to be in excellent condition, and all the visible parts look completely original.

I would tend to agree with Jim Watson who posted above that the gun may have been part of a special run made by Colt for a European distributor. The 9mm caliber is much more popular in Europe than .45, and this would indicate a good European market for a 9mm Gold Cup. I still believe that the price you paid was quite fair, if it equates to $850 US. The gun could easily go for more than $850 here, due to its relative scarcity in 9mm.

I should think this gun would be light recoiling in 9mm and probably quite accurate. It would be interesting to shoot it against a Sig P210 and see how it compared.

Welcome to THR, Shaguar. :)

I had a regular Series 70 in 9mm, back when I was still shooting IPSC. It was a real joy, since on a comparative basis there was little recoil. Really could stack them into small groups, at high speed!

Virgil Tripp just built up a Commander for me in 9mm; it, too, is very "soft-shooting".

Shaguar, I do hope you enjoy it! It oughta be a lot of fun...

That's one rare piece, I can't even find an entry on the collectors book for that model. I say, its value would be way over $1k. Like been said, it must be a special order from Colt by a european importer.

I both agree and disagree, Longbow.
A 9mm Gold Cup is an uncommon variation and would surely sell for $1000+.
But I think it is in the basic model and configuration, not the roll marks.
I bet if you order a hundred guns they will mark them anything you want. But that wouldn't make me pay more for one of them if they were otherwise a common model, sort of a 1991A1 LRM (Longbow Roll Mark.)
But I am not a collector or speculator.

Now that's a rare Pony!

I have heard of this model but never seen one.

There was a gentleman at the 2004 Colt Collectors Convention who had only a stripped slide that appeared to have never been final fitted.
Supposedly it had been found in the estate of a Colt employee.

I don't believe the complete guns were sold in the US.

Gold Cup Elite in 9mm

Here is a photo from my hard drive of a 9mm Gold Cup Elite that was posted on a Gunbroker auction a couple of years ago. I don't know what the asking price was. This gun is almost identical in appearance to my own 38 Super Gold Cup Elite, with a stainless frame and blued slide. If you look closely, you will see "9mm Luger" stamped on the slide.

We are family....

Hi to all the "helping hands"!

Now i know a little more: The Gold Cup in 9mm Para was build especially for Frankonia one of the largest distributors here in Europe. There are no other Gold Cups National Match made in 9mm Para exept this order. But there are no marks of Frankonia on the gun.

I do not know how many they build, but the number says less than 1000 maybe only 100.

I am still looking for this information here in Europe and will tell you the result. (if you are interested in)

By the way a picture of my 19(20)11 family. :) Two STI, two SPS and 3 Colt´s

Thank´s for your help and greetings from Austria.

Bernd
