My kid is turning 4. I'd like to find an airsoft rifle for him to shoot in the basement & backyard.
I've done a little searching but havnt found what I think i'm looking for. Most stuff is tactical, full auto, co2 or full size.

Ideally I'd like something youth size or smaller. Bolt or lever action, although semi auto would be ok. Easy cocking. Traditional rifle design, as opposed to tactical styled. Medium build quality.

I don't know a whole lot about the air soft world, but there are battery operated guns. That seems ideal for this situation as spring guns can be difficult to cock. Any suggestions?

So its looking like an electric (AEG) M4 with a collapsible stock is about as close as I'm going to get. Semi auto capable. Really wish someone made a youth size rifle. The AEG seems nice so theres no cocking or co2.

I think my wife will be more onboard with the plastic bbs than a bb gun.
Plus the cocking effort of say a red ryder is kinda tuff right? What about the buck? Is that easier to cock? I think its a bit smaller than red ryder..

All the airsoft guns I've seen that are sized for really young players have been spring guns. Those would be fine for basements or backyards for a 4- or 5-year-old. As he gets older he'll grow out of it but least it wouldn't be too expensive to start with. If he later decides to get into airsoft gaming as a hobby it can become a genuine drain on the wallet (ask me how I know!).
