I did some horses treading with Joe over at Aklys Defense the other day. I repaired the butt stock on a Ruger Red Label for him and agreed to trade the cost of the work for one of their Felcata AR lowers.
Here’s a close look at the lower.
It’s forged 7075 aluminum and Type III hard coat anodized black for durability.

-Bolt catch is attached via a set-screw which is included.

And multi cal marked.

Now comes the hard part. I need to figure out what I will build with it.
I’m thinking maybe a pistol, but have not ruled out a rifle.
I would love to do a theme build but not sure what. But whatever it ends up, I want it to be cool.

Good looking lower, I just finished my very first build last night, lots of fun except for the barrel nut torque.

Figure out what you will build???? Gunny, don't you have enough spare parts on hand to build 2 or 3 now? :) Don't you already have every possible caliber in your collection? Whatever your decision we all want to see it when it's done!

@GunnyUSMC

It that the same Joe that used to be on TV from time to time in a certain nameless show? If so, tell him the next time you see him, he is the primary reason that I tolerated watching the show and I wish him the best.

Nice high-end lower. The Lambda (upside-down "V") was used by the Lacedaemonians (Laconians), or Spartans, as a symbol. The falcata was a sword design shown being used by the Spartans in the movie "300," but in reality it was of Iberian origin. It wasn't even named the "falcata" until the19th century.

I have enough parts on hand to build five or six, but I’m not sure if I have the parts to build this one. I really haven’t made up my mind on what I want it to look like yet. The themes that I have given thought to are Star Wars, Steampunk, WWII fighter and post apocalyptic. Still haven’t made up my mind.

That would be the same Joe, Joe Meaux.
Here’s a pic of him with their Velociraptor AK. Joe is the owner of Aklys Defence.

Joe was a school teacher before and is a big history buff.

I just did another build the other day. The only thing that gives me pause is driving that roll pin for the bolt catch. The set screw is a brilliant idea. Even with the best masking of the area around the catch, it always give me pause as I start and set that pin.
I use a vice grip with the teeth ground flat, and the edges of the jaws rounded over and polished to slowly press the pin in.....The set screws seem way easier tho.

Pretty sure it will be cool what ever you do lol.

After a while they are pretty easy to install. I start with a starter punch then a long brass punch, and then finish off with a roll pin punch.
You build all of them as pistols first, regardless of what they are going to end up as, right?
Of course it will be built as a pistol first.

Ever think of a 27" OAL "firearm, using a rifle buffer tube and buffer, a 10-11 inch barrel with a short blast diverter and a vertical foregrip I use a Surefire 900 light grip on my home protection and motorcycle weapon in.300 Black Out.it is very handy and I haven't yet put a Blade on it.

if you're doing theme builds, you should do a ridge runner / moonshiner build, but i have seen some cool steampunk builds.
i like the idea of that tensioning thing on precision rifles, but wouldn't want it on high round count carbine.
