Is there any way to find out when the Committees will be discussing and voting on the bills? I would think contacting them closer to the votes would be more effective, but I can't find that info on the NJ Leg site.

I think that probably you will see it pop up on NRA-ILA and ANJRPC.org when it is approaching. I wanted to put it out there ASAP, only because the last two bills almost passed me by when I didn't check for a couple days. I'm setup with email notification from njleg.state.us. That should keep you posted.

It's important we make our voices heard on this. Contact as many people as you can about it.

I'm on it....

NJ always seems so hopeless. But we need to make our voices heard and not give up. I think it is important to contact the sponsors of the bill with support. Then contact those state politicians in your voting district. There are two things of major importance worth mentioning to your legislators (we can pretty much assume they are "anti's").
1. The Dept of Justice determined at the end of the Clinton Gun Ban deal that there was no measurable decline in crimes using the firearms outlined in the ban!
Thus, those measures of gun control, again, only hurt the law abiding like us.

2. This is the biggie. Among all the citizens in the 38 states that allow CCW, less than one tenth of one percent has ever committed a crime with a firearm.
That is a staggering mathematical statement. It clearly points out that CCW works. Numbers don't lie.

On a sour note. I heard that Comrad Corzine has already stated that if these bills pass thru the Senate and Assembly that he will veto. Maybe they should remove his armed guards so he can live like we peons!!!

I hope you don't mind the link, but there is a NJ organization that is at least acknowledging that there is a lot to be done about this.

NJ Coalition for Self Defense

I'd request that anyone interested in getting these pushed through at least have a look at this thread.

I'd suggest also taking interest in the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs. The ANJRPC is the organization responsible for some significant legal action supporting the rights of gun owners.

I'm waiting on my membership card for the ANJRPC right now.

Also, the president of the ANJRPC has a blog on www.NJ.com. Pick "Scott Bach" from the dropdown at this link: http://www.nj.com/njvoices. You may also want to keep an eye on Bryan Miller's blog at the same site - he's head of Ceasefire NJ.

I'm on the alerts for some of the bills at NJLeg.state.us site, but the subscription process is a little weird and I am worried about missing info on upcoming bills, especially since the bill numbers change year to year.

I did, so I left.

Seriously, your state is in horrible shape. Thanks to Jim "toilet paper tax" Florio, Jim "I am a gay American" McGreevey, and now Jon "above the law" Corzine, New Jersey is Chicago on an even more egregious scale.

NJ voters are squandering their precious gift of a scenic and prosperous state under the crushing weight of an oppressive, corrupt, wasteful and arrogant government.

Whitman, who campaigned on a simple tax cut agenda, and who delivered it - all of it - and ahead of her own schedule, provided the only temporary respite. Unfortunately your state legislature could not reverse its addiction to out-of-control spending. Your state government continues to treat you like ATMs, driving out families, businesses, and the prosperity they offer.

IF NJ ever gets its corrupt and wasteful house in order, I may consider bringing my high income tax bracket back. No promises. You need to work on those bills, and reverse the trend toward the socialist paradise such measures seek to impose upon you. Stop electing billionaire elitists. In the meantime PA still welcomes NJ refugees seeking freedom with open arms. Pun intended :)

While 100% true, unfortunately leaving is not an option for me right now. So until I can vote with my feet, I plan to fight as best I can. And for all the other people that can't just leave, I hope they join forces.

Cry?

Honestly it seems so hopeless in NJ.
I have no option to leave.
There are many people in the Legislature that are so anti it scares me.
NJ voters have so many other issues to be pissed about it is hard to get anyone who isn't a gun owner to care.

wah. wah . wah.

This is my attempt to compile a list of bills we may be interested in that are currently in Committee that may be up for discussion in the near future.

For more info on a particular bill (full text, Sponsors, previous voting history, etc...), go to http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bills/BillsBySubject.asp and select "Public Safety - Weapons" from the dropdown. There will be links to the individual bills. Bills that have not been sent to committee are not included below.

Senate Committee members can be found here:

A couple of personal notes / thoughts:

1) The legislators are spending alot of time discussing allowing various small groups (corrections officers, out of state LEO, retired LEO, etc...) firearm carry, when a general shall-issue for all law-abiding citizens will cover these groups.

2) With the current state of NJ's finances, why are we considering giving $4M to Ceasefire NJ?

3) If some of these laws pass in the right combination, I can basically lose my new truck and be sentenced to 10+ yrs for stopping to get a cup of coffee on my way to the range with a handgun locked in the back of the truck. Nice... :/

4) A497, meant to clarify what an 'assualt weapon' is, does nothing of the sort. The definition is still up to the NJ AG.

5) S1302, if passed, requires that each municipality maintain it's own map, which means, if you're to legally travel with a firearm, you must obtain the maps for any municipality you will travel through and plot your route accordingly.

And please, can we save the NJ-bashing for somewhere else? "Move" is not constructive to trying to change things here in NJ.

I have a friend that teaches in NJ.
She and some of her co-workers ar terrified the State will go bankrupt and send their pensions down the toilet.
But she's trapped and can't get another job and start over.

Wait A Minute

Just a week or two ago I got endlessly flamed by anti tin foilers and locked by a MOD for saying RFID tags could be put in firearms.

You better think twice about putting the bills up here, you might get locked too.
:scrutiny:

* A2022 Requires radio frequency identifying devices in handguns sold by licensed retail dealers.
