I have to load copper.

IDK the twist rate on this rifle.

Hornady sells the GMX line at 139 and 150 grain.

Not sure what else is out there in terms of copper options.

If I keep all shots under 200, which would you choose?

The guy from Hornady said that given ‘normal speeds’ the 139 would open up well past 200 yards. I didn’t ask about the 150.

Any other relevant comments? Questions I need to consider?

Thanks guys,
Greg

Thats what Im leaning towards too.

However, it happens frequently that someone knows some factor I’m not aware of and I need to rethink.

If I ever land a job in a free state that restriction will be removed. Pray this happens, please.

I don't have a legal requirement of copper/non-lead, but I switched 2 years ago. The copper solids really work well on deer and are at least as accurate as the jacketed lead bullets. Regardless of the politics, copper solids work well and you don't really lose any performance--actually they're a step up from what I've seen.

I found there are two 120 grain, Nosler and Barnes. The lighter weight will get it going faster though it therefore has a lower BC and SD. I think the speed in this case will be more important to me however because I won’t use this rifle if I think something larger than a deer is an option. I’m more concerned about the velocity so it can open well.

I like the Barnes over the Nosler because it has the rings cut into the shank to keep from fouling (I learned what fouling was one day with my .45-70...That took a whole lot of cleaning!!!).

Part of the point of this rifle for me is that the group I’m going with this year are all bringing old rifles. One guy is bringing his .30-40 Krag. So, I’ll bring this one and have fun. 100+ yo rifle should be old enough.

Thanks for any input.
