I'm looking for advice on an all weather holster for a 5" 1911. Intended purpose is hunting, hiking, range and general field use. Has to be able to; get wet (soaked) without damage to holster, allow cocked and locked carry, cover a much of gun as possible, closed bottom preferred, positive retention, and not a "flap" holster. Doesn't need to be concealable, as I don't want it to dig in to my hip-thigh-ribs, on extended sessions of physical activity.
I've got good leather CC rigs, I hate to wreck them by saturating them with rain.
I'm not interested in Kydex, I just don't like it. I have tried the Blackhawk! Serpa, meh...Also tried the Safariland ALS much better but still, meh... I just don't like Kydex.

The Bianchi accumold ballistic nylon looks about perfect. However I hear to frequently about the thumb-snap disengaging the thumb safety! Anybody here have any experience with this holster?

No interest in Uncle Mikes or the various knock offs. I don't like floppy holsters.

One upon a time I carried a Sig P220 in a military style flap holster (Bianchi?), kinda floppy.

Any suggestions...experience...?

Thanks

How about the good old G.I. holster?

Lots of them have been rained on, bombed on, mortared on by Mulligan all the way from Normandy.

the bianchi accumold holsters are nice, but if you don't adjust the thumb break it will knock the safety off. I have one that gets used every once in a blue moon, and I CONSTANTLY check the safety on both the high power and 1911.

Maybe the UM92I with the m1415 thumb snap? Anybody tried this? Any good?
That would give the option of a chest/shoulder rig or mounting to a pack.

Thanks Pilot, not looking for leather.

Double J, what thumb break adjustments do you speak of?

The Accumold I have for my Glock 23 has the back thumb snap strap stuffed down through a slot in the plastic belt loop.

There it is attached with HD Velcro.

They even sent a wood Popsicle stick with the holster to break the Velcro loose so you could adjust the strap to your liking.

I have no experiance with the one for the 1911, but it is probably made the same way.

Personally, for your hard outdoor use?
I would give up fast draw for more gun protection.
I would go with one of the full flap Bianchi M12 military holsters. Yes, I know you said no full-flap holsters.
But the M12 ain't that hard to get open fast and the gun out.

They also offer several different carry options.
And they don't flop around unless carried on a loose GI pistol belt.

Thanks rcmodel, I have trained, a little, with one. They can be fast-ish, I think quick enough for this use. The UM92 looks better than the kind I had (UM84?). The optional thumb snap is appealing, as well as it's modular nature.

Any other suggestions from anybody?
