I'm going to start loading for a new to me Redhawk in 44 mag.

Is 300 MP like H110 in that it can be dangerous to go too low with the starting charge? I've used 300 MP in .357 and I really like it, very accurate in my Security Six. The problem is Alliant data doesn't give a starting load.

I'm going to be loading 240 gr XTP's for now and then I'll be loading 240 gr Zero JSP when my order arrives. Brand new Starline brass and CCI 300 primers.

For the XTP I'm thinking I'll start at 22.5 grains. Alliant's data is 25 grains for a 240 Gold Dot.
I'm getting more cautious (nervous) about developing new loads. Do you think this is a good starting point? I'd go lower if it's safe to do so.

I haven't shot any 240gr bullets using 300MP.

But I'd think if Alliant says 25.0gr is max, based on my previous experience with the powder, I'd start at 23.0gr. That's just me though.

23.0gr is also the starting load recorded for 3 different 240gr bullets in .44 mag, from an old Handloader Magazine edition. (I just checked.)
