Alternatives to CZ527 Carbine in 7.62x39mm?

It occurs to me that a magazine fed, bolt action rifle in 7.62x39mm and a couple of cans of surplus ammo would make for a great general purpose, just in case kind of gun for deer hunting, home defense and fun shooting. Unfortunately, the CZ527 is the only option I know and it's not cheap. Yes, I know that I could just get an AK, SKS or Saiga, but I am surprised that there aren't more bolt actions in this caliber to take advantage of the cheap surplus ammo. Any suggestions? remington imported the mini mauser in 7.62x39. called the 799
ruger has a limited chambering of 77 hawkeyes in 7.63x39

both have internal mags. and both retail for as much, or close to that of the cz.

as accurate as the surplus ammo is, or isn't, the benifits of having a turnbolt would be minimal. and it would take alot of surplus ammo to justify the cost of a new rifle.

The CZ isn't that bad. Its $500 plus to $600 plus depending on where you look. Its the magazines that will kill you though.

I've often wondered the same thing. I believe that there are several models of the Remmington 700 and Howa bolt actions that have internal magazines that hold 5 rounds of .223. The internal magazine would be easier to load continuously than a magazine.

I think CDNN offered a rifle in that chambering made maybe in one of the former Yugoslavian countries. I think it was less than $400.

RAA imports various Russian bolties in 7.62x39 from time to time. However it seems like you have to be at the dock to get one.

I'm waiting for someone to make/import a cheap bolt action in 5.45. Aside from those $600 E. German border guards rifles.

Well...it would seem that it IS made...the Bars 4-1 can come chambered in 5.45x39...I would LOVE that little rifle....

Actually, you can get a Yugo SKS and turn the gas port off so you'll have a straight pull bolt action with a 10 round mag. Saves the brass that way.

The Savage would be neat. With a quick barrel change you could have a 6PPC for benchrest & varmint.

Well, the surplus 7.62x39 isn't that bad, truth be told. It's a boat-tail round, and plenty accurate. Only bad part is it's corrosive, but that's not exactly an issue with a bolt action rifle since cleaning is so easy. The real advantage is access to cheap target ammo from Wolf, as well as higher-end match-grade versions.
