My local gun store that has always had reasonable prices on guns, fair to amazing prices on ammo (4.29 per box of 7.62 for a week one time last year), and good prices on work seems to have lost it's mind. I went in and as always, checked out the milsurp rack. He did not have an SKS for under 200 and the only moisin was an m44 for 225:eek: Have they really gotten that expensive. I bought my m44 for 112 and the non laminated were going for 89. That was less than a year ago. What is going on?

wow, i paid $99 for my m44 a few weeks ago and i thought i paid too much...but it was an all matching tula.

I've got the original documents signed by the Czar of Russia

showing that this Mosin was part of his royal collection

It's a bargain at $225

:neener:

As the finite supply of any given surplus firearm is exhausted the price goes up on the remaining firearms. This cycle is almost always followed with surplus guns - early on when they are scarce they're expensive collectibles, then an importer finds a way to bring a big batch into the country and the price drops a bit, other importers get in on in and the market floods and the price plummets and collectors fill out their collection and everybody else grabs one or two at bargain prices, eventually the foreign source empties out their warehouses and the supply dries up and prices go back up. I've seen wholesale prices on Mosins climbing steadily for the past year and expect the retailers are just passing it on. Remember that these, and other milsurps, just aren't being made any more and that this finite supply will be exhausted some day.

What year was that Mosin? If it was a 1943 that price might not be out of line. (or if it belonged to the Czar of Russia :D)

Not to be anti "local gun stores" but its usually the smaller stores that need to jack up prices to keep the lights on.

If you need 7.62 x 39 right now, its better to buy it bulk. However, I'm sort of riding out the market prices right now- less shooting and glad I stocked up earlier.
