Handguns are VERY Important in the war zone.

This is a real account that happend in Rhodesia (now Zimabawe) in the bush war.

A group of 4 Rhodesian SAS operators were on a recce mission and they ran into an insurgent party of 5 freedom fighters (terrorists, which ever you prefer). The distance between the groups are a couple of yards in thick bush. Frantic shooting and every weapon dry only one insurgent down. Then frantic stares and grabbing for mags. Then one SAS operator got out the old HP en ends the engagement.

Before you start going on about bad shooting and all that. You do not shoot so well after carring 60 to 70 kg of kit for weeks. These teams had to be self reliant for two months at a time.

This is a real time stand still moment.

Thanks for the interesting tale. Sounds like the pucker factor was extremely high when everybody realized their weapons were empty!

WIldhonde.....what do you think of the Sentry 9mm +P load..
the Eliminator I think some people call it there??

The Corbon and winchester silvertips has quite a strong foothold here. But most of the time you have to take what you can get. The local importers only import what sells. But I do see more and more Eliminators. More and more people are cookin up their own of what ever weapon is thier choice for self defence. (Remember we are only allowed ONE firearm for self defence!!)So it is normally crowded at the crony on a Saturday afternoon. Everyone wants so see want is blasting down the range. Some times you get the odd non performer, then that person gets it for the next week until the next Saturday.

As far as I am concerned. I just want something that goes all the way through. The rest of the money I spend on the range with ammo. I carry a 45 gov. series 70. But here are some dudes around that I will not take lightly even if he is armed with a .22 lr pistol.

One National Champ shot and killed 4 BG's with a AK's with the NAA 22mag that he was carrying in his shirt pocket. The AK BG's were of the spray and pray types, but they lost thier lust to prey on inocent people as soon as the first man went down.

I do not know what the recon commandos are using now. Probably NATO ball. But they are trained to do head shots with the handgun.

ps. I do not at all see myself as a specialist. I am just expressing what I have seen and what feels right to me.
