THR came highly recommended as a good spot to get serious advice from good people—so here I am!

Anyhow, I purchased a new FN Scar L last night and am dying to get it to the range. I'll be cleaning it later this week before my first trip.

But I was wondering what sort of ammunition I should use to break it in. Has anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with various types of ammo put through this gun?

And feel free to share any other advice on the gun as well.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly I don't think it really makes a difference. I'd stay away from Wolf because it tends to be dirtier than most and the SCAR may or may not like the steel case. But other than that find some M193, 55gr bullet, and go to town. The surplus 193 can be had fairly cheap of you look around at local gun or sporting goods stores or on the net as well.

Welcome to THR and enjoy!

I also don't think it matters much. I would clean after every shot if the ammo is dirty. Only because the "Burnishing" of the bore works better if the bore is clean. In theory the steel has microscopic pores and during break-in your results are better when clean.

This may start a big discussion regarding the need to break-in vs the need to just go shoot the damn thing :D

Thank you! I picked up a PMag with the rifle, so I'm glad you mentioned that!
