Pure Prairie League, find this song , face South crank it up!

I am so proud...
Young lady had that song on when she called and well ...

This young lady is 19 years old. She "done growed up" on me.

She ran 397/400 in Skeet! :D

Little brat, cute, still a brat, was raised around guns, shooting and sure knew how to work her charm and get attention from Grandpa, Mom and Dad, and me her "Adopted Uncle" and...

She could not make up her mind on what she wanted to do as far as focusing on one firearm to learn well.
Understand one of them kids that makes good grades, and does not have to study to do so.
Yeah, one of "them" . :p

You know the type, no matter what they do, it seems natural to them, and not requiring much effort.
Like I said - one of "them".

Well she started with .22 rifles, worked on up to other guns as age, size and all allowed and life got busy with whatever was going on, Grandparents needing assistance, health, and shooting took a back seat for a bit.

Free time came about and "What do you wanna do?" Folks asked.

I want to shoot skeet, I remember the lessons Uncle Steve and parents gave me and I want to do that.

We are talking about a brat about so high, standing on a mat with little foot prints for her to put her feet onto and doing repetitions with a rifle stock only that fit her.

I mean a kids single shot .410 was too big. :D

Seems *somehow* , years ago, still a brat mind you - she managed to end up with one of my old 1100 20 ga skeet guns, with fixed choked barrels.
Seems this one *multiplied* and she had matching guns in 12, 20, 28 and .410 and still not out of "brat stage"
<Grandpa and Dad have pockets turned out, nothing but pocket lint and smell like a girl that hugged reaaaal tight! ;) >

My fault of course...

Oh, I gave her a VersaMec 700 single stage reloader at the time as well..and now we pan to Grandma and Mom with empty aprons/ pockets and brat with reloaders in 12, 28 and .410.

Yeah...my fault again.

She was 15 when I last was down her way and she wanted to "really do that"- so we spent some a lot of time with a shotgun, and me being "legal adult" so she could drive on learner's permit.
Never said I was smart..."Use the other brake pedal..." , "How about seeing if you can do only 20mi. over the speed limit...'
Age 17 and she and I again spent some time, not much, just some...
She is a great driver and has taken defensive driving courses.
"I like the whipping 180's part real well..."

She used her 1100 in 28 ga for 12, 20 and 28 events.
She dropped 3 birds in the .410 event.

"Well I dropped high 1 as the butterflies were really huge in my stomach! I had just run 300/300 and nervous as could be!
I was chipping low 5 and finally just dropped it all together...
I was too confident and raised my head because I just knew high 6 was dead..."

I asked her why she chose to use the 28 ga for the first 3 events.

"It is cute, I like it, and I shoot it more than the other gauges. Oh and I had more shells for it than the other two gauges since...well...you said you used to shoot 28 ga for the first 3 events..." <laugh>

I asked her if she shot the fun pump gun event.

"No, we did not do one , not enough folks were going to be able to participate, but daddy and I shoot this often on our own".

870 in 28 ga is what they use btw.

Just a fun impromptu shoot they had down her way and she is on cloud nine!

Oh I am just all "swoll-up" and proud as can be!

I have no idea who introduced that brat to Pure Prairie League, Marshall Tucker Band, Little Feet, Jerry Jeff Walker...
Bob Seger, Van Morrison & The Doors, Hendrix...

It was only a mat with little foot prints to replicate foot position - honest! ;)

Thanks for the giggles,Steve. FYI, one member of PPL is better known as Vince Gill....

Dave,
I hear Vince is quite a shooter as well!

I get tickled seeing kids grow up and do stuff like this. I understand why my Mentors & Elders had them grins as they did.

You will appreciate this, she latched onto 1911s and K frames early.

She was in a gun store at about age 10 and saw a Lt wt Commander in the show case. She was fixated. She told the gun store owner to put it back and handed him a crumpled dollar bill she pulled out her pocket.
Her dad was in the back with the gunsmith at the time and the gun owner was supposed to be watching the brat.

Daddy cracked up, snagged the phone and called Grandpa.
"YOUR granddaughter is a bit short on the balance on a gun she just bought, you need to come down make up the difference and pick it up".

Grandpa did, and brat has this gun today.

"Grandpa, I think we need to make sure your guns are okay in the safe" - she says

"Honey Grandpa done forgot the combination" *grin*
"I know it, here let me open it" brat says

"I lose more guns that way..." - Grandpa says kidding...:)
