Anodizing Options for a Ruger 10/22?

What are my best options for having a Ruger 10/22 receiver re-anodized?

I've seen a couple places that seem kinda high and there is an option to send it back to Ruger.

Just trying to figure out the best options on this considering the receiver is a $100 part.

I've been happy with results from US Anodizing. The cost/value question is something you'll have to decide on.

There are other finishes, such as DuraCoat.

Alternative Finishes

Send it to Robar in Phoenix www.robarguns.com . They do wonderful finishes on aluminum. Their NP3 is great but they also do a Black Finish.

Thanks guys. I know I'm going to refinish this one-- I just wanted to see the options.

It was messed up when I got it, and I experimented with Brownell's Tephlon Moly-coat on it. the Moly-Coat was CRAP, and was not a deal after having to pay for the can and the ORM-D shipping.

I've Duracoated before, but really wanted this one to have a metal finish.

What specific product did you use from Brownells? Was it the Aluma-Hyde II?

Just asking because I have a 10/22 receiver with a big scratch on it that I'd like to refinish also.

I wanted to see if a pre-mixed can was worth trying. I've done 5 firearms in Duracoat and was wondering if I could do it easier sooo...

I'm no stranger to refinishing and did everything properly-- including metal prep and de-greasing. The finish was crap. In one outing, it already has chipping around both the magazine well and ejection port.

It just doesn't seem to hold up well.

And then consider that the can cost $29.95 and THEN you have to pay on top of the standard shipping a ORM-D surcharge of $9.95.

For the cost of all that, I could have been 1/3 of the way towards re-adonizing-- or could have ordered enough Duracoat to do 4 more rifles.


If you blow up this picture, you can see the chipping of the finish at the ejection port. The chipping at the magazine well is FAR worse and much larger.

Interesting.

I've refinished a couple of WASRs with AlumaHyde and they have held up well. Solvents don't seem to phase it and it hasn't scratched/chipped yet except where the safety selector rides.
