Bought two new tires yesterday.
You casters know where this is going.

I asked if he had any scrap wheel weights?
He said no, he turns 'em into bullets.

I told him I understand, that's why I was asking :(

Can't get them here in Florida. Regulated Haz Mat company has to pick them up like oil.

I am not mining the berms in the swamp and die of heat exhaustion!

MBC can still deliver them to my door.:D:D

None of the tire shops I've talked to around here will give scrap lead to an unlicensed recycler anymore - I believe more by corporate policy than state law. The last couple buckets I was able to get were almost 1/3 zinkers anyway.

Agreed. MBC or my local reloading store makes fine cast bullets.

Hmmmm?

Ask for the wheel weights first, on condition you end up buying the tires?

Might be worth a try.

My new car dealer threw in free floor mats once! :D

You should have at least gotten the WW from the tires you changed out. Hey, they charged you for mounting the new tires so they should have least given you your lead back, no? ;)

I kind of lucked out. I've purchased a few sets of tires from a local family run tire place. I get along with the brothers that run it because I'm kind of a gear head myself. A week ago, I bought a set of 4 and asked whether I could get some wheel weights. I was able to get about 3 full 3 pound coffee cans full (that I just happened to have in the car ;)). After culling the steel and zinc, it only worked out to about 1 coffee can of usable lead weights, but what the heck....it was a coffee can more that I had earlier.

I stopped in again yesterday to do some paperwork and asked again. He said they didn't have much of anything at the time, but that I should stop back again in about a month and he'd make sure there were some put aside for me. Here's hoping it turns into a regular thing.

I was at the tire shop the other for new front tires. I asked the service manager what they did with the old wheel weights. He led me to the balancing room and let me sort through the 5 gallon bucket of scrap weights, I got about 30+ pounds of lead.
