I have a few Randalls. But, here one I have been going back and forth about getting for years. I need another knife like I need a hole in the head, but it isn't about need, it's about want.

So, here's my latest Randall. A Viet Nam era throwback, the Attack/Survival model with a 5.5" blade.

I've looked at those more than once down through the years, but would be happier if Randall offered them sans ripping teeth. You'd think that, as a feature that requires less work to the knife, it would have been offered long ago.

Just the thread I don't need:banghead:
Just bought a Richardson 10.75' on a whim. Bought a Benchmade 9100 auto. Ordered a Martin MCEII 7" and am bidding on a Fallkniven F1 Hunting Bushcraft Survival Knife.
Does anyone think I have a problem?

Absolutely not. If you're like me, you work for your money. You might as well enjoy what you spend it on.

Just say, "Hi, I'm Jim and I have a knife buying problem.".;)

If you have all the bills paid and money set aside for savings/retirement then you don't have a problem. If you're spending the retirement/college fund, you do.

BTW, the Attack/Survival is one of the Randalls in my collection as well. If you want real authentic Vietnam collectability you need to find one of the old crutch tip models.

HSO,
All that is taken care of, good point.
Too funny... "Hi, I'm Jim and I have a knife buying problem.".
Only disposable income goes to toys. Never savings, always cash flow. Turning 60 soon and been that way ever since I grew up at 42:D

I try to make my affliction for knives (no, that's not a misspelling;)) pay for itself whenever possible.

After years and years of spending money on lots and lots of knives I quit buying lots and lots of knives. I'm not saving any money because what I do buy tends to have a much higher price tag than before:rolleyes:.

OTOH, now I have 2 kids that also "need" knives (one of which was at her first Blade Show weeks before she was born) and a grandson that will some day. :scrutiny:

HSO,
You are quite clever. Nice double entendre on the word "affliction".
Just bought my oldest grandson, 11 years old, his first pistol. What a joy to teach him to safely become a gun owner. A knife will be a great next gift. Thanks for the thought
And yes, I am moving up the food chain with the Martin. Very excited, but a three month wait. Not as bad as the 9 months for my custom .260 rifle, arriving sometime next winter.

I've got two and the Byrd spear/staffs to match. The teeth were designed to cut through aircraft aluminum. While I value my Randalls less than the other customs in my collection, I am addicted to them. Due to economic pressure Over the last couple of years I have been selling off what is left of my collection. The investment is paying slightly better than cash in the bank.
I still will buy or trade for the odd piece when I can affordnit. I'll still be at the Blade Show.

Cheers,

ts

So, hso( please pardon the pun) - your`e saying you gift knives as tokens of your affliction?
Sounds like a very good , harmless affliction to have.
I have an affliction also, at least according to my missus- Interesting stuff has a tendancy to follow me home from my wanderings.

Retirement? What's that? I have no intention of 'retiring'. I'll work til I drop by choice.
(I've seen too many fall into a pit at retirement.) I may slow down, but never stop.

Of course, my work is my passion, so no loss.
If I was working for someone else, maybe I'd feel different.

And I have no kids, and am more than finished with my education.

So, back to this Randall Attack/Survival model: tell me about that handle, please.

you need to find one of the old crutch tip models.
I had an uncle down in Fla who worked for Martin Marietta as a machinist, He did all of their models and reduced size mock-ups. Sea story goes, "Some how my uncle Jim Kitson was approached by Randall and Co to design a screw on cap for said knife to replace the rubber cap which tended to rot or get pulled off." Not sure of the story but was told about it while we were at the Randall shop way back in '75. I have tried to collaborate it with the Randalls but they have never answered a few emails to them.
