but this one ended differently!

Apparently Jody Ray Thompson, a fine upstanding citizen no doubt, got in an argument with another man outside a Spartanburg Co nightclub at 3:30am Sunday morning. Mr. Thompson attempted to sharpen his point by pulling a weapon and shooting at a crowd of people gathered in front of the club, striking several.

Fortunately this isn't Florida. Someone in the crowd objected to being shot at, and returned fire. The victims are expected to survive, as is Mr. Thompson.

We only fixed the law to allow CC in restaurants serving alcohol 2 years ago in SC, and I'm glad we finally did.

I'm sure this will be making headlines on national news any minute now. . .

True, it's not Florida, but you South Carolinians still have more than your fair share of prohibited places, some of which don't apply here. Among those are places of worship (without specific permission), medical facilities (unless employed by and with specific permission of employer), residences of any other person (without specific permission), and any public or charter bus.

In a bar or nightclub, it appears that, while licensed carry is permitted, the consumption of any amount of alcohol while so carrying is not. The same seems to apply to carry in any establishment that serves alcohol for consumption, such as a restaurant, no matter where inside you sit.

Your "weapons prohibited" signs also carry the weight of law when posted, and you have a "duty to notify" any LEO who requests ID from you that you are carrying even if he or she does not ask.

I think I remember them being even worse around 8-10 years ago. Have the laws, like those in NC, been loosened in recent years?

So, South Carolina and Florida do differ in carry restrictions. In addition, the last time I was in SC, the laws concerning the carry of other types of weapons, such as knives, almost made my head spin trying to figure them out.

Too true, but one step at a time. I'm still delighted to be able to go to dinner with my wife without going unarmed.

In SC at least, it seems the slow march of progress is moving in the right direction.

Funny how no bystander was hit by the good guy even though he's been in a club with alcohol present. No responding cops or bystanders killed or injured the good guy by mistake either.
It seems to have happened outside but the report states the scene was chaotic none the less.

There was a fistfight outside a bar at 3:30 am and at least 2 people pulled guns and fired shots.

I'm a bit confused as to why you posted this.

There appears to be a much more detailed description given in the OP, yes?

Seems kind of like saying "in 1945 the United States killed thousands of Japanese civilians with nuclear bombs" in a grade school classroom where students presumably don't know anything about WWII

I didn't find it funny at all. I found it normal.

But, yes, the MSM would have you believe otherwise...

It won't be picked up or repeated by the news media as it doesn't fit their version of reality. It's largely a story about drunks in a bar parking lot at 3:30AM so what is there to point out as being good for the 2A?

Carry in SC is really not much different than MO - for the most part you pay attention to city and federal locations, otherwise it's rare to even see a sign posted. I just spent 6 days traveling there and back, and other than not having a real good way to carry in the surf at the beach, it was largely one long experiment on getting used to a specific holster.

Meh.

We passed thru 11 pro carry states and for the most part I felt more endangered on the Interstate by speeders going 85-90 weaving thru three lanes of traffic. It was everywhere with no letup. People have gotten to feeling privileged about it as if there are no rules or common sense in driving heavy traffic with semi's abundant - like you can pull out a gun and start shooting in a bar parking lot.

Not to forget we kill ourselves on the roads at a MUCH higher rate than with guns . . . not that the anti gunners use perspective about it, either.

Gun fight at a bar 3:30 AM isn't the kind of self defense story we need to point at.

Haven't heard a peep up here in Maine.

Nice going South Carolina. Time to make gun sanity a priority for the whole east coast.
