I was able to acquire another oldie but goodie. (IMHO) It is a Remington Model 4S, Military Model. Didn't know it existed before I saw it in the auction and fell in love. Can anyone enlighten me as to placing a date on this? I get the general era, but is there a way to date this particular rifle? I did note that a lot of these rifles only shot Short or Longs, however this one is marked for Long Rifle as well, and I'm not sure when that was available. Any info is greatly appreciated. And no, that's not TWO hammers, it's kind of like a Rolling Block with an ejector. One of the things that made this desirable to me... Also to note that there is no serial number I found on this so far... only what seems like a 4 digit number in the stock bottom... possibly 8034, but I'm not sure; it's hard to see.
Thanks in advance!

Very nice! Been through Ilion thousands of times. Had a site I used to service right next to Remington. When I see those old ones and Savages I wonder what it was like tramping the woods in the Mohawk Valley region back then. Enjoy it.

That sir, it’s very nice. I can see why you fell in love with it. Wish I had some information for you, but I don’t.

Made 1913-1923. Have to think yours is a late one to include .22 LR.
Most of the collector interest is in the Boy Scout model the first year or two. Their serial numbers are on the bottom of the barrel under the foreend, yours might be, too, although I saw a picture of one Military Model with number on the bottom tang.

Thanks Jim, I did a quick takedown and tried to get the forend stock off, but it appears it won't get off unless I tap the front sight out first to slide the barrel band off. I'm gonna leave that for another day. I also figured mine was a later model, due to the long rifle capability, but that was also part of the draw for me, as I wanted to shoot this. I'm far from a "purist". I need more money for that... lol
