Trying to find a pistol range bag similar to MidwayUSA’s discontinued Compact Competition Range Bag but with the following features:

1. Handle Straps that actually loop around the whole bag as suggested above - those that are stitched in to the side tend to tear on the stitches.
2. Reinforced to support six boxes of .45 ACP ammunition in addition to below.
3. Space for two pistols, with magazines in external compartments.
4. Space for eye and ear protection.
5. Discrete, NON “tactical,” with no MOLLE nonsense or some Spartan helmet visibly embroidered somewhere.

Any recommemdations?

I purchased this heavy duty large mouth tool bag from Home Depot about 15 or 16 years ago, it's truly been the last range bag that I'll ever need, and probably the best gun related purchase I've ever made. It was made by a company called CLC leathercraft, now known as CLC Work Gear. Designed to carry 80 lbs of tools with the largest heavy duty zippers that I've ever seen on anything. The main center compartment is huge, I can line the floor of the bag with up to 10 boxes of handgun ammo, and then 6 handguns in their pistol pouches, with a little room to spare for hearing protection, shooting glasses in hard case, and whatever else I can fit in the main compartment.

The two sides zipper open revealing additional pockets and pouches for storage of things such as magazines, a small assortment of cleaning supplies & tools, paper targets and other items. It also includes a couple of pockets on the end of the bag. If its ever fully loaded with everything mentioned, its heavy and the shoulder strap comes in handy taking the load off during transporting or walking with it. It's also discreet, looks like a tool bag and not a gun bag.

I'm pretty sure the Academy range bag that looks just like this has straps that loop around the whole bag, but they run inside of the side pockets. I never had any issues with the straps pulling out on mine. See the middle image on the post by Zebraranger.

These have the handle straps or loops go all the way round, not just terminating in stitches at the side?
Yes.

looks ... like ... straps that loop around the whole bag, but they run inside of the side pockets
Yes. I have both Compact and Competition MidwayUSA range bags (Among other range bags) and straps run inside the outside pockets all the way around and have no problem supporting 500-1000+ rounds of ammunition in the center compartment.

But I don't think OP is concerned with MidwayUSA range bag straps running all the way around rather looking for replacement due to compact range bag model being discontinued with dimensions 16"L x 7.5"W x 10"H and I posted similar dimension range bag options - https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939167522/

Thanks, guys.

Even though that MidwayUSA bag's a little larger than I would've wanted, that price is something...

Competition range bag became my "go to" USPSA match bag I preferred over other range bags I had and $38 is really a great price for "THE" range bag. Competition is 4 pistol bag with removable center padded box that accepts full length pistol bags. Everything on the bag is "heavy abuse duty" with hefty zippers. For typical all day match practice, I would dump 1000-2000 rounds in cardboard bullet boxes that fit inside padded box and bag never showed any issue carrying the weight. Accessory zippered pouches are large enough to accommodate shot timer/hearing protector/tool kits with outside pouch for oiling/water bottle.

It really is the last range bag any shooter, even match shooter would want.

For all the "Pay It Forward", especially new reloader starter kits I sent out over the years, THR Handloading & Reloading subforum members gifted me the Compact Competition range bag which is 2 pistol bag shown below. These days, it's the primary bag I grab for range testing and load development but I carry separate pistol bags, cleaning and tool kits as smaller size mostly accommodates only 2 pistols, magazines, ammo and hearing protector tossed on top of ammo boxes. If you have more than 2 pistols, Compact Competition will feel "small and not enough" but larger 4 pistol Competition will feel "more than big enough" to carry everything you need for the range trip.

Academy, Tactical Defense bag is my all around range bag. I got the one from Primary on sale awhile back and it's ok but a little large and the bottom is not padded and as sturdy...

Wish I found that thread earlier.

I have the black and red Husky from the first post, which is full of all sorts of tools…

I just got a nicer black and yellow DeWalt for my toys 😁

Sooo non - tactical, no Spartan helmets, no MOLLE pet hair magnets, with a 55 pound weight rating.

Pockets may be slightly suboptimal, but no biggie.

What more can one ask for?

Space.

Pockets on one side have one size, and the other side is of another.

They’re not purpose - built for shooting paraphernalia, but fit the bill nevertheless.

Wanted to show the types of magaz… clips that still fit nicely.

Great that a pair of pistol sticks fit back to back in one pocket.

Even more space.

Still closes even with two tall, squarish 12”W by 10.5”T pistol bags on top of the ammunition boxes.

Flaps are demarcated by the thin black trim, that’s where it folds.

Still has more room for snacks.

External straps for AR “uppers,” how considerate!

So well thought - out!

Highly recommend walking into Home Depot or Lowe’s with AR “uppers,” several pistols, magazines, and ammunition boxes to pick a Tool Bag most appropriate for hour needs.

Guaranteed it’ll be a memorable shopping experience!
