All these threads about 870’s got me to thinking that I have not posted any pictures of the latest and greatest changes to my guns. So thought I would share some pics of what I consider *my* ultimate shotguns.
From the top
12ga Remington 870 Express Magum. Has the old style aluminum trigger group/guard. Unfortunately the magazine tube had the “dimples” which had to be removed by drilling them out in order to attach as OEM factory magazine tube extension. Installed on this gun are a Wilson Hi Viz shell follower and extra power stainless steel magazine spring. The barrel is new off of a Police model gun. Also installed on this gun is a Wilson jumbo head safety. 4 shot side saddle loaded with 1 slug, 1 buckshot load, and 2 bird shot shells – hey I am ready for anything with this combo. Installed are the standard Remington “Sport” style stock set. The R3 recoil pad really seems to work as advertised – I LIKE IT.
With Remington Low Recoil 2.75” Buckshot shells this gun will keep very good patterns at 15-25 yards.
Below that I have another 870 Express gun. But this one is a standard older model Express. It also has an aluminum trigger group/guard, but no dimples in the magazine tube. Installed is another Police model barrel with Iron sights. This is the harder to get 18” version. I had a time trying to find one of these barrels. Everyone and their brother caries the 20” version but no one seems to carry the 18” length. Also has a Wilson Hi Viz shell follower and extra power stainless steel magazine spring. Plus the Wilson jumbo head safety. And of course to top it off there is a Surefire Light Fore end. I’ve been contemplating getting one of these fore ends for the shotgun above but haven’t made that leap yet. The butt stock is original to the gun, basic wood. I put a butt cuff on it with 2 slugs and 3 buckshot loads. This gun also has a GG&G single point sling adapter/mount attached between the butt stock and the receiver but the lousy quality picture does not show that well.
I don’t know if I am going to put an extended magazine tube on this gun or not. And every time I think about changing out the butt stock to a synthetic one with R3 pad I can’t make up my mind and keep going back and forth on the issue.
For some reason this gun does not shoot buck shot loads as well as the barrel on my other gun. However, it shoots slugs pretty good.
I took both shotguns apart when I first got them and polished out any burrs and rough spots inside the receiver and on the action bars. I wish I could say that this made a big difference but it did not. There was a noticeable difference than before I did the work, but not like night and day. I guess that’s a good thing as it means I did not remove any metal but just accomplished the task or polishing out rough spots.
There are many great shotguns out there. Mossberg, Benelli, Winchester and others all make great guns. But for me I guess I am an 870 fan.
For now I am BA//UU/R.
Regards,
Rob
