Another Savage in 6.5 Creedmoor....

As far as the paint job, try using masking tape cut with a razor into stripes you desire. Can even lay the tape on a wall or work bench then cut.

PREP THE PLASTIC! I use harsh degreaser and rough up the plastic a bit, apply base, apply texture, then apply several coats of your base color. If it harders properly and you pick the right colors you can get away with large nicks and it will still look good.

Great work however. I will likely do a similar project after I sell a few pistols that i dont shoot much. Thinking a poor man’s mountain rifle with light barrel in a fast caliber.

Thanks for the tips!

The one thing that makes building a light weight savage hard, is it's hard to get them lighter lol.
Great starting points, and I seriously considered building a 6.5PRC instead of this 6.5CM, but I'd already bought the barrel.

Heavy actions? I currently hunt with a Zastava mauser, most any modern design feels light to me currently.

Not particularly. It's just that the peripherals are light as most after market options, so besides milling the action the only real way to reduce weight is to install a skinny barrel.
I think the standard 10 or 11 weights about 6.5-6.75lbs before adding a scope.

I was mostly trying to be funny, in that if you can spend a pile of money and end up with very little improvement in weight....and offten accuracy.

Here’s a simple rattle can job I did to the kid’s 22’s a few years back.

To make the tiger stripes I took a manila folder and made a stencil by cut the shapes with a xacto knife. Then I laid it over the rifle and sprayed away

That 597 came out nicer looking than the one I painted lol.
I'll have to give all these ideas a try I got a few stocks needing the colors!
