CAZENOVIA, Wis., Sept. 29, 2006

(CBS/AP) A small-town school has been evacuated after a principal was shot Friday, CBS affiliate WISC in Madison, Wis., reports.

The shooting occurred at a school complex, from which all students have been cleared of students, officials said.

All the children at Weston School were reported safe, Sauk County sheriff's Capt. Michael Haifemann also said.

The principal was apparently shot several times, Haifemann said. The principal's condition was not immediately known.

A TV report said the gunman, an apparent former student, entered the school with multiple weapons. The Wisconsin State Journal has tentatively identified the victim as district administrator John Klang.

The Richland County sheriff is at the scene, and says "the students are safe" and "the scene is secure."

Local television stations report the shooting happened in the Weston School, an elementary-through-high school complex, which is in Sauk County. The principal oversees all grade levels.

Weston is about 70 miles northwest of Madison, Wis.

WISC reports that Reedsburg Medical Center has confirmed that that one person has been MedFlighted to Madison. The principal was originally taken to the nearby Reedsburg hospital.

CBS News' Ryan Corsaro reports that the principal is in critical condition, according to the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.

The gunman was disarmed and is in custody, officials say.

It's taken two full generations of decay for this country to produce "cats" so completely void of any sense of moral responsibility. And the juvenile justice system just enables kids to get away with any and everything....
IMHO no reasoning person can really act surprised that we've created a sub-culture of brazen and cold blooded killers.

That and because that is the "in thing" lately in the news so it gets more attention in the national news. Next month it will be back to old people running pedestrians over on crowded sidewalks or something.

Yeah, bad things never happened at schools before the 1959.

The Bath School disaster was a series of bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, USA, on May 18, 1927, which killed 45 people and injured 58.

That's EXACTLY what it is.

This didn't happen in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Do you know why? Because if you shot up the highschool in Chancre Sore, Iowa nobody would hear about it for six months, if EVER. And even having heard about it, the newspapers wouldn't treat the shooter as an object of sympathy or compassion. If the little degenerate survived, they'd give you a colorful description of the hanging.

Contrast that with today. Five minutes after some atrocity happens, people in Harare, Zimbabwe will be watching overwrought and hysterical coverage of it on CNN.

FAR more tears will be shed over the animal who rapes and murders several people than for his victims. Imbeciles will intone self-importantly about how such crimes can be prevented by making them SAFER to commit.

What today's media have done is to tell pathetic losers in search of attention, that the way to get that attention is to murder a dozen people. There's a difference between crazy and stupid. If you give somebody EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT for doing something, why would you expect them to NOT do it? If you DID, then they may be crazy, but YOU'RE stupid.

When I was in middle and high school, I always had weapons on me. Always. I wasn't the only one, either.

One of the local high schools has such a massive problem with gangs and drugs that a team of uniformed cops patrols the grounds at all times. IIRC, we've either come close to, or actually had, murders there.

Why not just convert it to a penitentiary and be done with it?

I'm going to stop vomiting in disgust now, mostly because I'm dry heaving. Lets clear something up before this gets ridiculous and someone says something like the above.

The current generation of kids are NOT a sub-culture of brazen and cold blooded killers. The people who shoot up schools - since its obvious that this point has still not been beaten to death - are sociopaths. And lets also not forget... Better yet, lets go out of our way to remember that these people are are a desperately, insignificantly, minutely small percentage of kids today.

Its very easy for older adults to bemoan "kids today," as if its the root of every problem with modern society. Lets remember that these desperately screwed up kids in question have parents YOUR AGE who are obviously not doing a good job and these kids are in a social setting where they are not supported in the least. These aren't excuses for behavior, these are explanations of the problem.

So before we start levying war across the generation gap, lets realize that each side had a hand in creating these kids, who do not - not even slightly - represent even the subcultures they might subscribe to.
