I'm in the market for a couple of handguns...

I currently own a Ruger P90 .45 blued and a M&P9c (9mm)

My next purchase is definitely a .357 revolver -- most likely a SS Ruger Security Six.

I've been throwing around options for the second gun and I can't seem to make up my mind... here's what I've been leaning towards:

1. CZ 82 -- Cheap, all steel, interesting and (currently cheap round)

2. Glock 22 -- It'd be a Glock in my collection, great reputation and a round that would round out my collection.

3. S&W 3d Gen .40 -- All steel (or alloy), great reputation, still a new round for the collection, tough to find though (in my area or at a decent price anyway)

4. RIA 1911 GI for $399 at Buds or more likely a Nickle model for closer to $500. I WANT a stainless Colt 1911 badly. This would however allow me to have a cheaper 1911 to learn on and the RIAs seem to have a great reputation for the money.

So basically, I'm trying to decide between awesome value in surplus, new caliber in Glock or S&W, or a starter 1911. I have my CCW and I may conceal any of the above if I buy them but that's basically the realm of the M&P9c. I'd actually probably prefer a full size gun if given the option. It'd be mostly for range, nightstand & collection. I wanted to stay around $300 for this gun but I've crept slowly towards $400.

Opinions?

Save your money and buy what you REALLY want. The Colt 1911 sounds good to me. (IMHO, a cheap 1911 is just wasted money.)

Although i agree, and it looks like your collection is missing a 1911 :) There is nothing wrong with an RIA.

2 ways to go about the RIA. You could buy that now, and especially for $400, you can get that back out of it when you have the other half of the money saved for the Colt you want. OR you start re-saving and get the colt you want AND keep your RIA that you can mod/play with.

Man... so many guns, so little cash :)

If I go the RIA route, I'll probably start saving for the Colt... actually I'll probably do that regardless of what I buy. I'm going to try to avoid selling any of my guns as I can see sellers regret setting in strong down the road.

If you are asking this question here, the chances are pretty good -- probably better than pretty good, in fact -- that not one of the guns in question really speaks to your soul. Were it me, I'd take my time, shop around, and browse until I found a firearm that didn't require me to post a "Should-I-buy-this-one?" note on The High Road. Then I'd go out and buy it and, afterward, post a "Look-what-I-just-bought" note instead.

True enough -- None of them really jumps out as a definite buy (like the .357 does) which is why I posted the question here. I've been watching the prices fluctuates and inventories go in and out of stock for a while... just wondering if anyone here had any opinions that might push me towards or away from any of the above. I guess I could just buy more ammo instead but this site seems like a good place for gun purchase enablers to gather :)

Amen to that Searcher! Ace it sounds like you've got a nice little collection started already and perhaps the question ought to be "are my current needs met?" if not, what's missing? My apologies for being frank but your budget indicates the Colt is out of range, perhaps more of a want than a need (which is fine). If you're looking for an inexpensive, solid shooting 1911, the Springfield GI model might be a good place to start. I love my M&P .40 and loading for it helps keep the cost down. Another benefit is the availability to buy a .357 Sig barrel from Storm Lake for $150 (also avail. in 9mm) giving you even more choices. They have a $50 rebate or you can get two additional magazines. It's a bit more than the $400 you're looking to spend but a great deal and it will have the benefit of pointing like your M&P 9.

The Glock 22= RTF 2- is a must have weapon......Love mine...
