Anti-gun forums has changed my mind...

Don't forget

There are no liberals that have been mugged or threatened personally with a weapon and saved by someone else with a weapon. Quickest way to convert someone is to show in real life that personal defense is in their interest, and what better way than saving their life. You can be that someone whose life is saved by a citizen coming to his defense is very unlikely to ever again say that it is a bad thing. :)

a lot of anti's have the attitude that nothing bad can ever happen to them, ie it always happens to "someone else" .... when you have that kind of attitude, its pretty easy to advocate disarming law abiding citizens and aiding and embedding violent criminals.

Hi q102josh-

We're in agreement that there is nothing worse for decent people than "embedded" violent criminals. :p

So really what is the point of having CCW if it really isn't a deterant because all the criminal has to do is rob the guy next to the CCW holder knowing that the CCW holder won't take the risk to help out? Simply put, criminals just have to start asking people before they rob them,

"Do you have a CCW?"

"Why yes I do."

"Nevermind then." Goes to the next guy.

"Do you have a CCW?"

"Oh no, I don't believe in that."

Produces knife or handgun, "Give me your money and you over there with the gun, remember you don't want to get involved because this guy is an anti and you don't want to risk that I am a cop making a lawful arrest." Making sure not to point his gun in your general direction.

Hi El Rojo-

You're giving too much credit to the criminals on their ability to do deductive reasoning. There is also the opportunity that they'll approach someone with their knife and get blasted full of lead after a brief verbal exchange.

And you either are ignoring my satire or not understanding my satire.

Sadly enough, I think who I gave too much credit to is my fellow THR members. :(

edited to add "my satire" instead of just satire.

Hi El Rojo-

The typical online forum page is famous/infamous for its inability to reflect flavor and tone. My favorite technique in those situations has been to employ smilies or a </satire> tag. Thanks for clarifying your post.

I do not have the ability to turn my back and walk away from a situation where a person is getting a beating or about to be killed.
Weather I have a gun with me or not, makes no differance. That kind of s-t just dont wash. And it makes no differance if he is a FBI agent or a police officer, if he is beating the man, Im going to stop it.
If a person is about to killed by someone who has no uniform or badge (with a knife for example), we are going to change his direction I promise you.

I do bear in mind there are other things to be done befor I pull a roscoe. I may be an old man but I am not helpless.
Being an old man at times has its advantages. I dont have a whole lot of time left anyway. To spend it in jail would not be the best thing, but hell, you cant just walk away and do nothing. If he shoots me, well as I said befor, not much time left anyway.

I had a liberal woman once tell me that she'd rather be raped that to see someone shot. I told her that I felt it was my moral obligation to assist a person in dire need.

So I told her that I'd compromise. That IF I ever saw her getting assaulted I'd let him rape her just a little bit before I shot him just a couple of times. That way we'd both feel like we had been true to our beliefs.

She didn't quite see the humor in that. However, everyone else listening did.

When I read all the posts about how people wouldn't help someone else because their gun is just for them and their family, I like to stay positive. Just as the liberal might change their mind in a true life threatening event, I think most gun folks would help when actually faced with a situation, even if they say they wouldn't.

If you live in a State where deadly force can be used to protect yourself, or an innocent 3rd party from severe bodily harm (most of them)...and you round a corner to see a scruffy man, with a knife, ripping the clothes off a woman and beating her, I think most folks (who had the resources) would intervene. It's obvious the guy isn't an undercover cop  in the above situation. I think it would be obvious in most real-life cases too.

Nobody is saying don't use judgment/discretion or rush in gun drawn to any situation. If you are not sure, call police and be a good witness. How many of you who say you wouldn't help could actually watch the woman in the above situation get raped/beaten to death while you retreat and call the police if you could have stopped it?

Yeah, I guess they could both be cops and it's all a set up, complete with make-up/props, to get the gang the guy is trying to infiltrate to trust him after he commits a felony...better not help. :uhoh:

All the "what ifs" should be reasons to be cautious, not excuses to never help someone in need.
