Moms Demands will be holding a rally May 14 to push for passage of HB 4774, registration of ALL firearms, not just pistols. A counter rally will be held to show legislators how foolish this will be.

Pro-firearms protestors will gather at 11:30, and will line the sidewalks around the Capitol building.

Let's overwhelm Moms Demands

Be sure that you're focused on the media coverage and that everyone is briefed on keeping a cool head and always appearing to be [strike]polite[/strike] civil, if superior, demeanor. Point out Bloomberg's backing. It won't matter if we turn out 3 to one of theirs, MD will look good on TV and our folks need to as well.

If you can get pro2A signs printed or at least very neatly lettered it helps visibility.

+1 on big easy to read signs. Short and sweet.

Keep spreading the word, maybe print out some basic little flyers and put them around some local gun shops and sporting good stores. Let your friends/family/neighbors/coworkers/Church members know about it.

Good luck! Definitely let us know how it goes, pictures would be good too.

How is this going?

Does anyone have any pictures to see the relative sizes of the crowds?

It's 3:27pm EST on May 14, 2013 at the time of this writing so the rally should be underway or over by now. Keep us updated!

I'm curious as well. The weather wasn't great in my area, how was it over in Lansing?

What happened to the other thread concerning this bill, from the MDA sympathyzer?

Some comments

Yes, I saw that my thread vanished-I did not have a chance to respond to many who commented, but Oh well.
I think that the Mom's rally went well. The Million Moms were represented as well. There were a few open carry supporters of Moms one had a T shirt stating gun owner supporting Moms.
So small steps towards better gun laws and saving lives.
CPL holders have to go through an intensive background check-why can't everyone be required to go through a similar background check as well? I brought that up many times with Moms. Same with rifles and shotguns.
Statistics show (available on line) that states with stricter gun laws have fewer gun deaths. It's a fact, look it up. It seems to me that the Federal Government is paralyzed related to doing anything so now you are having a growing grass roots campaign throughout the states at state level and it seems to me that changes will occur more at state level in the future.
Like in any movement one has polarized viewpoints that will eventually meet at a rational point of discussion and legislation. Moms, Million Moms are here to stay and will get bigger as public awareness about guns relating to public safety is addressed. Like the leader yesterday said, Moms are not out to take guns away from people. Moms are not about eliminating the Second Amendment. Myself, I don't like Bloomberg due to an extreme polarized view he has yet, as the reality that the Second Amendment is here to stay, (it would have to take an act on Congress to change/eliminate it which won't happen) these extreme polarized anti gun views of some will move towards the center but gun owners as well will have to budge.
As a retired RN (still licensed) I am concerned with public wellness. Safety is paramount as far as guns. As a retired Military (US Army) security of firearms is a great concern of mine. Denying access to firearms is very important especially with children around. Denying access is a start by any gun owner to decrease theft, accidental shootings and having unauthorized people accessing firearms. Gun safety as well needs to be tightened up and I would like to see more intense classes to include range time for new firearm owners.
Our gun culture is quite relaxed because of our history, but what the Army taught me is that one can never be too relaxed with firearms.
To me it was a success and more is coming.

If...

...I don't respond to any comment does not mean I don't want to-I'm just unavailable, like today I'm working this evening (I have a super part time nursing job which pay more per hour that when I worked full time!!) or Saturday as well.
I did not delete my original HB 4774 post I don't know who did.
Have a great day!!

The other post probably got deleted because the purpose of the Activism forum is GUN RIGHTS not GUN CONTROL.

If you really think there is some benefit to licensing firearms owners (which seems debateable considering the number of states that don't even license concealed carry and have low rates of firearm death), I'd just point out that VOLUNTARY programs like concealed carry have successfully encouraged millions of gun owners to get training and licensing.

They did that by removing burdens placed on legal gun ownership, not by creating new ones and forcing people to obey them at the point of a gun. Mandatory licensing hasn't accomplished jack - both because it has wide political opposition and because many people prefer not to comply with it.

Shootingthebreeze, perhaps instead of trying to force more regulation on your fellow gun owners because you think it would be good for them, you should consider what types of incentives could be offered to gun owners to encourage them to voluntarily seek out the training you think would benefit them.

Personally, I seriously question anyone who would side with a Bloomberg-directed group against his fellow gun owners. I think it is extremely naive of you to think that mandatory licensing will not be used as a political weapon - first to limit the number of legal gun owners by making the process burdensome, and then once their numbers are limited, additional restrictions on firearms (including bans) will follow.

Anyone who lives in CT, MD, NJ, NY, or CA just saw this process in action in 2013. I can't imagine why you think it will go any differently for your state if Bloomberg or MDA achieves their goals.

Shootingthebreeze, you're either naive, or willfully ignorant of the motives of the groups you support.

Legislating the law-abiding isn't the problem or the solution.

Folks, Activism is the pro 2A workshop while discussions belong in the Activism Discussion forum (or Legal or General).

Since this event has passed and folks want to discuss instead of plan (yak instead of work) you're welcome to start a discussion in AD and we'll put this one to bed.
