I have to keep my gun in my car while at work and am concerned about theft. My problem is that I want the gun easily accessable but at the same time hard to find for the average stranger. So I am looking for anyone that has creative ideas about where to hide a gun in a car. Right now I'm considering somewhere under the steering wheel column. Any input would be much appreciated.

I bought a lock bock from Wal-Mart and chained it to the floor in the back seat. When I get to school I put the gun in the box and go to school ( damn near impossible to conceal in scrubs especially when you may be asked to take your shirt off at any time to demonstrate a technique) When I leave school I take the gun back out of the box and carry

The best thing to do is to buy a decently made lock box or safe that will fit in your car and mount it securely in your vehicle. I think it's been said here that anywhere you'd think to hide a gun is the same place a vehicle prowler would look to find a gun. If you want to keep your pistol safe from theft but accessible, a fast access safe bolted to the floor of your vehicle would honestly be your best option.

It's nice, too, when you want to put your wallet or other valuables in there when necessary. Kind of a pain to hide things all over the car only to realize it's not really secure, just hidden.

Depends on the make and model of your car. I keep mine in a leather case in the driver's side door pouch. Due to the way my car is designed, you cannot see it from the outside. The glare is either too high, or the shadows too dark. And even if they can see SOMETHING, it looks like it's just the pouch that contain's the car's documentation.

Keep in mind that this may not be legal in your state, however. Arizona law basically states a firearm transported in a car is legal and cannot be considered concealed as long as it's cased, and says nothing about it being loaded or within reach of the driver. Mine is loaded, and I can extract it with one hand if necessary.

I've looked at safes but I'm worried that fumbling for a key when I need the gun is a bad idea. Has anyone used one of those hand shaped keypad safes?

I drive a Corolla, hey 38mpg. And in my state you can conceal or openly carry a gun in your car. However I don't want the attention that comes along with open carry.

Which is why you only use the safe when you have to leave the gun in the car if you’re in the care with the gun it’s not in the safe
