Does any one know what is the situation with Veprs? Are they still being imported? Is there any way to get new ones still or are they done be brought in? I searched around but could not really find anything new. I would really like one in 223. Thanks

i've become a bit of an AK junky myself lately. i've also dug around some for a vepr, but haven't found anything in stock either.

Russian built AK variant--unique in that it uses the heavy "bulged" front trunnion of the same type as the light machine gun.

One of the nicest, more accurate of the AK types.

They come in various caliber offerings, perhaps the only downside is the proprietary furniture. And their current rarity, of course. :p

They are no longer being imported. Only chance you have now is picking one up that pops up on the used market.

I sold mine. Unfortunately.

Yeah Ive seen that too, I don't know whats up with that. Its two different guns with the same name (not counting the Vepr K and the Vepr Super). Maybe someone else could explain it to us.

I don't know what kind of VEPR that is on Wikipedia, but it isn't the same rifle we know as the VEPR in this country, pictured here:

It is an AK type rifle, but with a unique slant cut reciever (see the back, lower portion of the receiver). The receiver, trunion, and barrel are all heavier than standard AK type, ala light machine gun weight.

Robinson Armament imported them to this country for a time, but then had a fallout with the Russian suppier, and has no plans to get more as of now.

okay that just looks like a standark ak with a grip and trigger glued to the handguard.

223 vepr

I'm not sure about the 5.56 or 7.62X39mm Vepr's but the 5.45 uses the high capacity common military mags....The 5.56 on GB are a good deal if the price hangs there...

That's a great example of why wikipedia is a decent quick source for information, but far from the definitive factual resource. :)

Pigspitter, look close at the pic marked Made in Russia--that bulged area is a lot of extra beef. Look at the rear sight too, it allows for windage adjustments without drifting the front site.

Another option for a nice 223 variant would be a US assembled M90/95. I love mine so much that I've got two more on the way. (got a deal...)

They are not imported any more. You can find them on Gunbroker for huge amounts of money every once in a while.

I take it you ride the short bus to school. ;-) Just kidding. That could not be further from the truth, however.

I was the 2nd largest Vepr dealer in the country, and largest west of the Mississippi. We also had did a huge group buy on this board several years ago, and sold 80 Veprs at dealer cost just to THR members.

They're great rifles.

Robinson lost the import rights. RAAC would be the new importer, and all of RAAC's distributors were all over getting them again, but the Russians jacked the price WAY up. So none are coming in right now.

+1 for a.223 saiga?

I have no idea what you're asking.

Saiga .223s are available currently. I've got some in stock, and more are coming in on every shipment.

The Saiga 12s are the ones in short supply.

No, I understand I was talking about the "VEPR" on the wikipedia article. I'm stupid but not that stupid.

Don't forget that the .223 VEPRs took mags (East German, IIRC) that had the follower replaced with a modified Robinson Armament follower in order for them to work well. I've never owned a .223 VEPR but from what I remember, the mag lips and opening were an issue; they had to be the correct size. The E. German ones with the modified follower were the most reliable and recommended by Rob Arms. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Neither of my 7.62x39 VEPRs have ever FTF or FTE on any combo of mags or ammo.

Last week, a .223 VEPR IIk came up for sale in the Austin newspaper. The guy only wanted like $550, with a PSOP scope. I could have bought it but I turned him down once I learned it was .223 because of the mag issue. I would rather have a Tromix Saiga in .223 that I know will feed reliably from Bulgarian waffle mags, rather than have to get mags modified to work with a .223 VEPR. I could have bought it and resold it for a profit, but I just did him a favor and told him that he should reconsider the selling price since they are selling for close to twice that amount now and he could get some more money if he put it on Gunbroker.

Verp k .223

What price should I ask for a Vepr k .223 that has only had 150rds shot through it. I have 2 30rd mags and a low profile weaver mount for a scope. It is in perfect shape aand also has a A2 flashhider on it. Also have the box papers, manual ,cleaning kit, and an assault carrying case.
