Anyone have a HK UMP? I'd like to learn more about this gun.

Where can I get one, and is it worth it to drop 1400 bucks on a .45 caliber carbine when a Romanian PSL can be had for 6 bills and an AR can be had in it's infinate configuration options starting at 700?

UMP or USC?

I had a USC for a few years and it was a nice shooter; but even though it was black the lack of available hi-cap mags annoyed me and the UMP conversion you could do to it was too expensive for my taste. So I sold it and bought a new AR and couldn't have been happier.

The USC (if that's what you are talking about) is a neat gun but I would never buy one again and looking back i should have bought a decent AR in the first place. If you have money to burn then get the USC, if you have lots of money to burn then buy the USC and spend the extra $$$ and convert it to look like a UMP.

IMO there are better things you can drop $1400 on and you would probably be a lot happier.

anything h&k is nice but i think that you are right, i think the money would be better spent on an ar, unless of course you alrady had one and then why not get one right?

I've got an HK USC, and while I did look into it, I'll never do the UMP conversion - it's just not worth it to have a nearly $2000 carbine with the drawbacks it has relative to the .45 AR. I have two of those and they're the bee's knees compared to the HK.

use the search function. tons of threads on this

Real UMPs are $1100 if you're a LEO and can obtain an approval letter on dept. letterhead. Otherwise you must become a Class III dealer and get HK approval to sell their restricted firearms.

While the genuine article is fun to shoot, I agree, it's definitely not worth paying mega $$$ for a USC to UMP conversion. I'd personally focus on the AR 45 build. Check out a new Cavalry arms lower. It's a polymer lower that's designed to hold both .223 AR or M3 greasegun mags.
