Was having some problems with my Hornady LNL and sent it off to Hornady to let them work their magic. While they had it I had them install the new EZJect subplate on. Is anyone else having problems with it? Every shell gets hung up on it and I have to manually pull the new bullet into the bin. I was hoping the new eject system would be better than the old wire system but as of the moment I would caution you from buying the new EZJect system as it isn't any improvement whatsoever on the old wire system.

Any pearls of wisdon will be appreciated.

I got my cart before the horse so my apolgies for not having used the search feature before aming the OP.

I found that the #1 shell plate (suppossedly for .45 ACP) is not compatible with the EZJect system. Hornady already told me that if I continued to have issues with the shell plate they would get me the appropriate shell plate at no charge. My question is that this #1 shell plate incompatibility with the EZJect has been known at least at THR since '08. Why didn't they just swap out my plate for the #45????

The system seems to work with my .223 cases.

They system does NOT work with my .40 cases. They want to eject but the case retaining spring keeps them in the shell plate. UGH!

I really like Hornady products and their customer service is awesome but I am really second guessing my decision to "up grade" to the EZJect system. Guess I'll make another call to Hornady tomorrow morning.

Did you tell them when you sent it in that you were using your #1 for 45 ACP? The #1 is also (and still) used for several other cartridges (mostly rifle).

Any particular cartridges you're having this problem with? I occasionally have a 9mm case fail to pop out, but everything else works great. I've found that your speed and rythmn make a difference.

Oh yes, and make sure your shellplate is completely tightened down. If it's loose at all it'll make the cases more likely to lodge sideways against the EZ-Ject nub thingy.

The only problem that I am having with my EZject is when loading 30-06. They tend to just fall over instead of going into the bin. I use the #1 for the '06 and a #45 for 45 acp with no problems.

A pic of the spring holding the case from ejecting would be helpful. As you found out, the #1 will not work with the EZ-Ject. I had modded my #1 to work with the Projector and wire eject of the LNL, and had to buy a new #1 for my EZ-Ject conversion as well. It works great. During the great demand/rush on reloading equipment, Hornady was shipping some bad shell plates, but I have bought three since things slowed down (#1, #2, & #45) and they are extremely well machined, as well as matching. Before they must have been outsourcing, because shell plates were obviously machined differently from each other.

I had .45 written in Sharpie on the shell holder so I guess I assumed they would realize I was using it for .45. Apparently I assumed a little too much. As to my .40 issue I think I finally have that solved. I had to manually push the retainer spring into a groove that it is suppossed to glide in several times. Once I got it to stay there the EZJect seems to work pretty darned well. Now to get the #45 shell holder from Midway!

Two or three shell plates won't get the spring in the groove by its self, you have to give it a nudge. Only on nudge and it stays in the groove. I forget which calibers do that for me.
