I have a Lee Turret Press which I purchased a few months ago only to find out it's a piece of garbage when it comes to punching out the primers. I would like to change it to the Classic Turret press but Lee doesn't have an email on the web site to ask the question. Does anyone know if I can just purchase the ram and swap them out? The ram on the classic allows the primers to travel down the center to a catch bucket - the ram on the original turret press throws them all over the floor!
Any ideas?

This is where a single stage press is always useful. I deprime in a Rockchucker with universal depriming dies, never a problem. It does add a bit of time to my reloading but makes better ammo. I saw a post somewhere recently where somebody attached a plastic drinking straw to the bottom of the ram and that allowed the primers to drop into a coffee can. I never tried that but it looked neat.

No you can't. The ram for the classic turret is a larger diameter and also longer. I would call Lee and see if they can give you credit for your turret in exchange for a classic turret.

thats why the WHOLE press is a piece of garbage? 'cause you can't get the spent primer to fall into a strategically placed bucket ?????? i've been using my lee turret for 30 yrs without one single breakdown and i've figured out how to catch the primers. i'm even depriming lc/hxp with the ORIGINAL pin.
anyway, if its bothering you that much, CALL lee direct. the hell with emailing. i had a few concerns a few months back and with what wasn't answered here by the knowledgeable fellows here, was quickly answered by a tech at lee when i asked for one.
don't be so quick to knock lee stuff, it gets the job done. it may be a little slow at times but when your retired like me i don't need to load 500rds/hr; and i wouldn't want to be that quick anyway. research your problem a little more from the source and i'm sure you'll get an answer you can live with.

I usually reload on my Dillon 550B, but got the lee as an alternative so I could decap and size on the Lee while keeping the Dillon set up for other calibers. I use one turret on the Lee stuffed with decapping sizing dies for various calibers, so when I feel like it, I can simply twist the turret and decap any caliber while loading another. The problem came into existance because I tried to save a few bucks and inadvertantly purchased the turret press and not the classic.

I'll let you know what happens.

Hey mugsie, You could sell your Deluxe Press down in the Trading Post Buy, Sell and Trade: Reloading Components and Gear and then purchase a Classic.

I got my Lee Precision "Deluxe" Turret Press before they made the Classic Turret and while I wish I had the Classic, the original works just fine. Call Lee Precion as there is nothing that the original turret cannot do and do it right.

I made the same mistake when I bought my first press. I had the turret press for less than 2 weeks when I decided to sell it off and buy the Classic turret press. Everything about the Classic turret press is better.

As for decapping, I bought a "Lee Reloader Press" (Part #90045) that I use as a dedicated decapping station with their "Universal Decapping Die" (Part #90292). The press was only $26.99 and the decapping die was $9.99. If you have a heavy single stage press available like the RCBS Rock Chucker or Lee Classic Cast Single Stage Press, those would work VERY well because they are built so well. I bought the cheap Lee single stage press because I like having a dedicated decapping station always ready and not tying up my Rock Chucker or Classic Turret press.

Lee Turret is nice. I have 3 Lee and one Dillon 550B. The Turret is permanently mounted for 30-06 and .308.

I use the Lee hard cast and Turret to deprime and all the primers are falling into the tube with no problem. The only little caveat is that you need the primer thinghy in so the primers don't pop out of the shaft and go sideways instead of falling down.

In my book, Lee single stage is cheap, strong and reliable. It is made in USA (USA! USA! USA!) and the products are simple.

Actually, that's not true. It's doesn't throw them all over the floor if you put on one of the priming fittings. It comes with two, and it doesn't matter which one you use if you're simply depriming anyway. It forces the spent primer out the small hole and into the base of the press.

Yes, it took me a year to figure that out. But hey - it only took me a year to figure that out!

Took me a bit to figure that out too haha. You hear the ping of the primer getting pushed out and the tap tap tap hitting the floor. Put in the primer seating tool into the side of the ram and they all fall into the tube holding the old ones for easy disposal.
