Checked the Remington site and they no longer repair the 512.

The guy they RECOMMEND had it for months and charged me $35 to ruin it.

Ain't goin back to him. His excuses ran the gamut from "more urgent repairs" to "ever since the beauty shop moved in, I can't test guns." What's the matter with him? He was there first. Probably can't talk to a landlord any more than he can repair (?) guns.

He has it so the bolt just comes on out if you pull it back. "Wheee! Look at my bolt here in my hand while I am trying to shoot." (oh yeh, it also still jams in the carrier like he was supposed to FIX)

:cuss:

Of course, he has also loosened the STAKED screws in the stamped receiver.

I wouldn't bother, except this was my FIRST gun and it is still nearly mint. (Except for where the "gunsmitppppphhh" screwed it up)

Very accurate and we have been friends for a long time.

I have a M66 Smith at Maraviov's in Woodland, CA for milling for a Hi-Viz sight. Think he's old enough to know these old stamped things? This is an oldie even before they put serial numbers on em.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Check and see if Numrich Arms (www.e-gunparts.com) still have parts for the 512. They get in damaged rifles and save what they can for parts.

I also have a Remington illustrated parts list with instructions on how to fix common problems. Apparently the sear also acts as the bolt stop, and the recommended cure for "bolt pulls out" is to replace the sear.

Also have "dismounting instructions" for the model 513, that is similar to the 512 except it has a box rather then tube magazine.

I any of this will help I can probably send you photocopies.

Edited to add: Send a p.m. to Jim Keenen - he might be able to help.

Old Fuff.....May have to go that route. Sent email to Jim.

The tube mag is the problem.* Gotta know how those carrier thingies are supposed to be. The ...."gunsmith"....replaced the carrier with a new one from somewhere but it didn't cure the jamming. So he put the old one back in and said....."it works."

sigh.

* ONE of the problems. The sear shouldn't be different. But those things SUPPOSEDLY are very critical of screw settings and must be staked once correct. Much simpler if it were a box mag.

But when I was 9 in 1949.....who wanted ONLY 7 shots? GOTTA have the FIFTEEN!

kids.

My Numrich Catalog (#26 - may be out of date) has an exploded view of the 500 series rifles, and includes a view of the model 512 cartridge carrier assembly. Apparently the parts are available. I think you can get this drawing off of their website. Unfortunately what I have on the Remington 500 style rifles is focused on the box magazine/single shot versions. However that view of the carrier assembly might be what you need.

Run a Google search on the key words "Remington +512" and see what you find.
