I going out in a few weeks to checkout the area for a family relocation to get out of California and wondered what the gun shooting situatio is out there? Are there some good ranges in the area? Do most places let you have a range on your land?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Like most of rural Texas, you're welcome to shoot on your own property as long as you're not endangering those outside your property lines or violating any hunting/game laws.

You can sit on your back porch with a Sharps and fire away across the back pasture.

Having said that, it is an area that's growing rapidly, so it depends on where they settle.

GREAT area of Texas with one FINE dancehall nearby, "Leon Springs".

Wish the hell I could live out there myself. Tell 'em CONGRATS!

Shooter's heaven!

Go to www.krtraining.com and look for the area faq that includes the San Antonio and Austin region (which Boerne sits in).

Close to you would be several ranges and competition venues.

Check out www.texastactical.net or www.rivercityshooters.org to get a feel for the competition environment. There are more matches than you can shake a stick out. Almost every discipline - IDPA, IPSC, Steel, rifle, carbine, shotgun sports, etc.

Hunting is usually on private land or leases.

Enjoy.

my 2 cent

Boerne's not the wild west anymore (least not for 20 years). My sister has lived there for +25 years. The area is right in the start of the "Hill Country", where old ranches are being divided up into subdivisions. Most of the folks commute to San Antonio to work. Look on "Land For Sale in Texas" under Kendall county to get a feel for the prices. You CAN shoot safely on your own land, but don't be suprised if someone complains. Several ranges have been shut down due to similar situations.
Personally, I would'nt move there just cause it's already crowded (relatively) and getting more every day. I'm from SA & moved back here from the Bay Area 2 years ago. If being near work in a large city is one of your requirements, then you may not have alot of options. If you work from home & want some land with trees & a little terrain they you need to look NE of Austin & east of Waco. PM me if you need more info.

Bourne is growing fast but if you just keep heading out IH10 west just outside of the Bourne city limits you will see a big change, most of the current growth is on the San Antonio side.

yea, that's like

saying, "you can sit on the tracks, there's no train commin' right now",,,but wait, the developers will catch up sooner (not this year, of course) than you expect.
