I have a lot of 100 RNFP plated bullets that I bought for 380 loading, which i don't do much of anymore, and wondering if they might be used for 9mm plinking. Powder on hand is Clay and Bullseye. My Lymans loading book has nothing for Clays; for that matter, nothing for 100 grain bullets either.

I have more of the Clays but if anyone has loads for these bullets in either powder, I would apprec hearing from you.

Although I used a Lee 100 grain cast bullet (Makarov) sized to .358" in my Beretta M9 NOT using Clays, perhaps my results listed below will be of interest. PLEASE NOTE: These are of my own making, and listed for reference/illustration ONLY. Worked fine for me, maybe not for anyone else. I wanted to have basically a 16 shot Tokarev, and found these loads a hoot to send downrange.

4.7 grains International 100 grain Lee Makarov bullet sized .358” CCI 500
1349 1359 1355 1336 1350 AV 1349 ES 23 SD 8

7.6 grains Power Pistol 100 grain Lee Makarov bullet sized .358” WW SPP
1404 1433 1457 1443 1441 AV 1435 ES 53 SD 19

Yes you can, as Post #2 from Ricochet shows just be sure you adjust your COL as you have FN and the Hornady data is for RN bullets.

I made some light mouse fart loads with some 100 gr. bullets for 9mm that worked well with a lighter recoil spring. I have never tried making any full-power loads however. They work for sure, just work your way up to make sure they cycle well in your gun.

I use the Lee 358-105-SWC in 9mm. It's supposed to be a 38 special bullet but it can be used in the 9mm luger. I have a WWII era Walther P38 that likes this bullet best. size it to .357 , over 4.7 grains of Unique and it shoots to the pistols sights...15 shots go into one big ragged hole.

The 100 grain plated bullet should work well with 4.8 grains of Bullseye . I have used this load with the 105 grain bullet as well in several 9mm's .
For some reason the old P38 likes the load with Unique...go figure !

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook #4 has data for Lee 102 grain RN , use the cast data for the plated bullet. It shows no data for Clays either...maybe Clays is not suitable or not included because of the sheer number of powder available .

I have no experience with Clays...HP-38 and Red Dot ...but no Clays, sorry
Gary

I've loaded the Xtreme 100gr cp rnfp in 9mm Luger with Bullseye but never finished working up that load.
From a XDS 3.3"
brass- Blazer
primer- CCI 500
Powder-Bullseye
Charge- 4.0gr
COL- 1.040"
H= 1070
L=1044
AV=1059
SD=10
The accuracy was not that good 3" group at 15 yds.I think working this load up would improve accuracy. I worked up a load with W-231, at 5gr with a WSP the AV was 1,191 fps with a 1.5" group at 15 yds.
I don't have good metering with large flake powders so I have not tried Clays, the 1.040 - 1.045" COL seemed about right to allow the case neck to get some purchase on the bullet
I seat to depth and then use a taper crimp die for copper plated.

That's all?:what::)

Not really, it was kind of an ordeal. The short bullets were also hollow base so they didn’t want to collate out of my regular 9mm collator so I printed off a different version just for them.

Then I had to rig up a different bullet feeder again for the hollow base issue.

It was smooth sailing after that though.

I loaded up some light load with HP38.
4gr HP38 with the Xtreme 100gr RNFP gave me about a 1000fps and 100% function in a couple different 9mm pistols
with stock springs.
Can't find the chrono data at the moment but 6gr of CFE-P with the same bullet gave me about 1300.

They can be fun in 9mm, load them and fire away:)

Ive shot a ton of 100gr or less weight bullets in 9mm. One of my favorite bullets to shoot is an Ibejiheads 100gr SWC, extremely accurate and cuts perfect holes in cardboard.

Ive had a lot of luck putting lite bullets over higher charges of slower powder, usually extremely accurate and light recoil too. Almost like shooting little laser beams.

I loaded 10,000 of them last year, used Zip and 231.

Curious, what's the appeal? The cost? Accuracy? Light recoil? Seems like a lot of effort to go through when traditional 115gr would have worked just fine with your equipment.

Actually I prefer 147’s myself. It was a friend of mine that brought me a bunch (obviously) of free stuff to put together. It does hit hard. Will dent mild steel where sub rounds won’t.

I would like to try some with a better bullet than plated at longer ranges with a carbine though.

I use the bullet for 380 acp. I wanted to find a light load for the misses so she could get used to shooting my 9x19 pistol. After that I got her shooting heavier loads with more confidence.

I don't shoot much 380 anymore and have 1000 rounds of plated RNFP I'd like to use up. I wanted to see how they would work as plinkers in my new Remington R51 which is reputed to be fairly particular about ammo . Started with 4.0 HP38 and worked up to 4.5. I found that I needed to set the bullet out to 1.060 to get good feed. The R51 had previously worked flawlessly with my reloads of 115, 4.5 hp38, at OAL 1.120, as well as a variety of factory HP's down to OAL 1.040. One box of Slovakian loads with OAL 1.160 caused some hang-ups in the mag.. I've read of issues others have had with this gun, usually caused by the mags, but I haven't had any yet. Its a royal PIA to field strip and is a hefty gun, weighing the same as my Kahr P45, so I were to carry a gun this heavy it would be the 45. Its said that Remington planned to make this same gun in a 45acp but that seems unlikely unless the 9mm version takes off. From what I read, a lot are laying on dealers and distributor shelfs, which doesn't bode well for Rem. For a total of $245 OTD, I couldn't pass it up.

Yep, a lot of fun out of pistols.

Far left, RMR 90 Gr JHP over 3N37. Nicknamed "Little Lasers" by @Artofgolf.

1313 FPS from a 3' EMP, 1454 from a 5" 1911, & 1644 from a 16" AR @ 83 Degrees 35% RH 5-2016

No reason not to load light bullets in 9MM with a small charge of fast powder(s) like the OP has. Not sure what power level they are looking for.
.

Well I did find some decent 9x19 loads with a 100gr Xtreme CP RNFP shooting in a Sig P938 Legion.
brass- Blazer
primer-CCI-500
powder- Accurate #2
charge- 4.7gr
COL-1.045"
H= 1090 fps
L= 1077 fps
SD= 5
shots- 5
And the I tried the same as above with a charge of 4.9gr
H= 1117
L= 1104
SD =5
I will try a 4.8gr charge next and see how that goes. Both of these loads shot well with the 4.9gr load having the accuracy edge, with a cool environment about 45-50 deg F.
I'm thinking a 4.8gr charge would be the way to go as things warm up.
