Anyone sold a gun on Gunsamerica?

Their price structure can be found on a page linked from the front page - scroll down to the bottom, left side, under "Resources". Link is "Fees".

You'll see that the ad LISTING is "free", assuming the time you have to wait while pages load - not to mention the interminable searches that return wrong results - is worth nothing. But they charge you varying percentages to SELL anything. And any transactions MUST be done through them.

OK.

So what if you just want a site that works, is reasonably fast, doesn't get involved in the transaction (puts sellers and buyers together directly) and is FREE to both?

Try http://gunsusa.us

I listed two guns there a couple of years ago...and didn't sell either one to a GA subscriber. They billed me for about $11 for listing them...I think. I sent them a check, which they cashed. They continued to send me a "statement" via Email for years, which showed me still owing them $11. And come to think of it, I haven't recieved a statement since they ruined the site...so there may be a silver lining.

Thanks. Any idea what percentages they charge when the gun sells?

Liberals are generally good people, who fill the life raft with so many good intentions that it sinks...drowning all aboard.

And they preach as an irrefutable proposition that the boat can be kept afloat by drilling holes in the bottom. When it sinks anyway, they claim the conservatives didn't drill their share of holes.

I used to sell there years ago but the site has gone way down hill. Since they did a big revamp nobody sells there but some dealers. You can practically see the internet tumbleweed roll by your feet. Gunbroker and auction arms are a lot more vibrant.

They have a flat fee of $2 to list an ad and then $10 for anything sold under $1000. Like someone said they have all their prices listed. So it is about 1% I'd say.

You no longer have to repost items, you can keep them up there until they sell.

They also have an EZ ad that I've used when I've posted anything more than $1000 which costs $20 flat fee.

Gunsamerica sucks. The new format is largely unusable for the casual surfer.

I'd suggest just posting your item in the b/s/t section of THR and GT.

You can list 2 guns per month for free. If the item sells you pay a flat $10 fee.

After the 2 per month for free, it is $2 to list each additional gun.

The old system was based totally on the honor system. When you sold an item you sent them money. If you listed it on GA and it sold on THR you didn't give GA anything. Now I'm not sure how it works.

You can remove the listing and only pay the initial $2 fee.

I know that they got rid of the whole "honor system", but I understand why they did. Not everyone takes 'the high road'

Only ever used Gunbroker and Auction Arms to buys some handguns in the past. Thanks for the links to Gun Mountain, guys.

ETA: The link to gunsusa.us is currently down.

I used to buy/sell on GunsAmerica, but have stopped beacause of habitual email/billing problems and now the navigation issues with the new website.
It seems like you have to constantly refresh when scrolling back and the search engine function has some quirks as well.

Sage of Seattle, I've been burned by auctions before for guns. I know people that have boosted up the price by bidding under other names, and I have also had to repost listings because of bidders who weren't able to purchase (legal issues).

So my preference is Gunsamerica because of my bias towards auctions. I do know of other classified sites, but none are as big.

saltpepperPA -- You're saying that Gunsamerica isn't a auction site? From the brief look of Gun Mountain, it may be a better choice in an online want ads-type site. At least, from the complaints of browser refresh and broken search functions, it may be better than Gunsamerica at this point.

I'm not making any decisions right yet, personally.

Gunsamerica has an auction function... but like I've said I don't really like auctions. I'd rather know what i'm getting into like with classified ad's. If I'm hunting for GREAT deal, I use their 'Make and Offer' option and see if I can get it for cheaper.

Gunmountain just doesn't seem to have as much for me. I'm of the opposite opinion as most people on this board and while I listen to what they all have to say... a lot of times they are just on a rant because they changed format last year.

Gunmountain.com kept it simple, yet their advanced search is powerful and allows searches that can separate between dealer sold items and private sellers. I like that feature.

gee, I just searched on "Remington 710" at gunsamerica, and got ...

5 results, all remington 710s. how strange.

gunbroker and auction arms are the places to go. a lot more people are on those two sites. i have purchased and listed items for sale on both sites. works very good.
