Does anyone have any experience with Ciener’s 22 conversion kits for the Browning HiPower? I am looking to get a 22 conversion kit, and would like to get it for the BHP because the frame is lighter than the 1911. I think that for the price of a kit that I should just buy a Ruger MkII or 22/45 but I live in a state with ridiculous laws, and don’t want to “waste” a pistol permit on a 22.

Thanks for the advice,

Fred

If you don't own a .22 pistol you owe it to yourself to "waste" that permit getting one.

I absolutely love my MarkII 22/45. I wish the grips were interchangeable standard, but I can live without that.

Besides, .22 ammo is cheap and you can shoot 550 rounds for less than a box of 9mm ammo. Besides, a .22 is just plain fun.

Got one a few years ago, one of my favorite .22's. Would recommend the High power "Plus"....has the machined ribbed slide and adjustable sights. Very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Magazine holds 14+1. I plan on getting a couple more for my boys highpowers at Christmas. Dealing with the company is a little strange....must send a check and wait about 6 weeks for delivery. Target shown was at 25 yards.

Thanks

I like the idea of shooting 22's from my BHP. I think that this thing will get a lot of use. I have heard the this company is hard to deal with so someone said that I should get it from Brownells, that way I don't have to wait and if something is wrong Brownells is easy to deal with.

Rembrandt:

How long have you had yours and about how many rounds through it? Also, have you had any problems?

Thanks,

Fred

2 years and about 5000 rounds through it. Have only used CCI-Minimag thru it, can't speak for other brands or types of ammo. A couple of jams the first 200 rounds, after that it's worked fine.

Cool

Good to know. I think that next payday I will be buying one.

Also, are extra mags expensive?

thanks again,

Fred

That reminds me, I need to pick up some extra mags for my Ciener BHP conversion kit. I was going to do that when I ordered the unit, and plum forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

I own a Ciener for both my Kimber and BHP. You read all the pluses, they are fun to shoot and my Kimber gives target grade performance. The BHP? well it wasn't a target pistol before and the Ceiner kit did not turn it into one. I had a little problem with both my BHP magazines. The followers would jam on both loading and firing. A little polishing on the magazines internals and problem solved. The BHP is also ammo sensitive, I use CCI Mini Mags and they work well.

Now and then I think about one but have not made the move. If I do I will get it from Brownell's. Have been dealing with them for many years now and on the rare occasion something has not been right they have made it right with zero fuss.

Had a similar occurrence once with Dillon on a PACT timer I had ordered from them. It had "issues" that two trips to the factory failed to fix. I called Dillon on general principles and they just said to send it back and they would replace the unit with a good one. Which they did.

I have had several Ciener's: For BHP, Beretta 92FS, and 1911. I sold the HP unit because I just didn't use it after getting a Ruger MKII target pistol.

They all work fine, if you can live with poor sights and the lack of a lock back after the last round. OK to plink but not very accurate. There are much better units out there that cost more of course.

Get a better unit or a decent .22.
