With the major powder availability issue right now, I had to go with RL22 for my 130 gr. .270 win. needs. I've got a lot of experience loading for the .270 win., just not with RL22. I've run with IMR-4350, H-1000, RL19, and several others. My recent load of 56.5 grs. of RL22 seems pretty anemic, velocities are low (2800 fps), and very inconsistent. I'm using a magnum primer (CCI-250), Winchester brass, and Nosler ballistic tips. Accuracy is also not there.

So my question is, does RL22 improve as you increase the charge and can I expect RL-19 velocities (3100 fps +) with it?

I've got some 140gr AccuBonds loaded with RL22 up waiting for a trip to the range, but I haven't shot any yet.

So, yeah... that was no help.:neener:

To be up front and honest, my .270 has been a wonder for digesting loads through the years. So that said yes I have used it and yes I have gotten some good results from it.

You probably don't need the magnum primer though, and that may well be what is giving some of the erratic behavior. I would also bet that on the upper end of the load range you will see better performance as well.

It has worked well in 25-06, 6.5x55, and 30-06 loads as well so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to find a load that works for you.

Hornady #9 list RL22 with 61.3 grains Max behind four of their 130 gr .277 bullets for a velocity of 3100 fps.

They list RL22 with 56.2 behind the same bullets at 2800 fps ....

I would work on up towards the Max ... all while watching for pressure signs
