Has anyone used the Wilson 8 round 1911 mags with the low-profile pad? I saw one in a Colt Gunsite pistol this weekend and wondered if they performed as well as the classic mags.

I have two Wilson 47D magazines with the low-profile aluminum base pad. I like them in this configuration far better than the stock pad. The extra length is useless and just increases the risk of printing the butt of the pistol.

I used those mags for a season of IDPA and a few months of carry. Never a problem, well over 4k rounds. The low-profile pads were nice because I could run drills at the range to practice for competition and let them hit the ground without feeling guilty. Outside of competition that piece was my carry. I trusted my life to those mags and would readily do so again with the same rig.

I have used the low profile aluminum based Wilson mags for a couple of years in IDPA competition with good results. They are sturdy and have given great service.

I keep a flush fit in the well (solves the "printing problem") and use both the normal and low profile mags for reloads (solves the "seating problem").

Yes, those are my "serious" mags and I have used them for several years.

I have a magwell on my gun, so I need the mid-size pads on my 8rnd Wilsons, but I have the low-profile aluminums on the 7-rounders I used before I put the magwell on. Like was said, same mag, different pad. Either one works fine.
