Tagline about says ti, have you used AHP and did you like it. They have a new line out that is third generation, reviewed in American Rifleman this month. Just curious what people think? thanks, Kyle

Assuming this is the electronic stuff that runs about $120 and lets you hear normal conversations, I'm curious about it, too. My hearing just isn't what it used to be and, despite what my wife thinks, it's usually not intentional. Is the protection level actually better than "normal" ear protection, or are you just paying for the ability to carry on a conversation?

I don't know about the brand plugged in A.R., but to answer Dan's question, they are no more protection than a $20 set of plain muffs. You are paying $100 for the electronics that let you hear conversation and range commands but shut off or down upon detecting loud noise like shots. Active noise cancellation like you can get in aircraft headsets does not work on a single impulsive report as from muzzle blast.

Saw one @ the range for 120, but it was only rated @ 24. I like a 31 in hearing protection.

Well, I ordered a pair of their deluxe and I'm going to be using them in a class with Andy Stanford. They have a 25 or26 on them for protection. The last ones I had were 21 and they weren't good enough. My understanding is that every 3 additional db reduces the sound by half. We'll see. take care, thanks guys, Kyle

well, I ahve a bit of curiosity on the subject as well. I know the NRR on theses suckers isn't up to par for what I usually wear.

However, I was thinking that if you got a pair that had an ok rating, and doubled up with a set of earplugs that are designed for even frequency response and have a low NRR, that you might get something that beat what you get with a pair of 29db NRR muffs but let you hear what was going on somewhat better.

Anyone tried something like that?

Seems the money in the old piggy bank is always burning a hole in the pocket for something other than electronic haring protection.
